No New Posts The Sorting Ceremony

The Sorting Hat is battered and old; it's patched, frayed, and extremely dirty. In order to speak and sing, a tear along the brim opens like a mouth. It speaks inside of the hat with a small, quiet voice to the wearer and it can read thoughts and respond to them. When not sorting students, the Sorting Hat rests on its stool in Dumbledore's office.

No New Posts Platform Nine and Three-Quarters

To get to Platform Nine and Three-Quarters, "All you have to do is walk straight at the barrier between platforms nine and ten. Don't stop and don't be scared you'll crash into it, that's very important. Best do it at a bit of a run if you're nervous. Go on, go now..."

No New Posts Entrance Hall

Double oak front doors, opening to the west. Large, cavernous room, lit by torches, with ceiling so high it's barely visible. Wide marble staircase opposite the front doors (east wall) leads up to first floor. Double doors to the right (south wall) lead into the Great Hall. On the east wall are two doors, one on either side of the staircase. To the north of the staircase is a door leading down a flight of steps to the first dungeon level. To the south is a door leading to the Hufflepuff common room and the kitchens. On the left (north wall) is a door leading to a smaller antechamber where First Years wait to be sorted.

Vast chamber with an enchanted ceiling which mirrors the sky outside. Four long tables for the four houses. Closest to the doors from the Entrance Hall is Slytherin, then Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and next to the far wall, Gryffindor. No New Posts Owlery

The Owlery, where the school owls and the owls belonging to students live, is located on the top of West Tower. It is a circular stone room, rather cold and drafty, because none of the windows had glass in them. The floor is entirely covered in straw, owl droppings, and the regurgitated skeletons of mice and voles. Hundreds upon hundreds of owls of every breed imaginable are nestled here on perches that rise right up to the top of the tower, nearly all of them asleep, though here and there a round amber eye glares.

No New Posts The Roof©

There's not much to say about the roof, except it's about as high as you can go. Students are allowed to go up here during breaks. There is a protective force field surrounding the roof, as well as the rest of the school's high places, which prevents students from jumping off the roof and getting hurt.

No New Posts The Dungeons

Located below the castle, the dungeons have been abandoned for quite some time, except for the use of the Kitchens directly under the Great Hall and the Potions classroom. Although no one lurks much down below there are some few suspicious people who like to be in these cold and damp locations...

The Quidditch pitch is a grassy oval field, 500 feet long by 180 feet wide. There is a small circle in the center of the field where the balls are released. No New Posts The Forbidden Forest

To the west of Hogwarts Castle is a large, dark forest. The forest is thick with trees but there are paths, brooks, and some clearings. Off the path, the way is almost impassable, although people have moved through it and creatures as large as Acromantulas and a Ford Anglia have managed to get around. The forbidden forest is home to a wide and strange assortment of creatures. Anything wild and dangerous that needs a place to live is put there.

No New Posts The Whomping Willow

The Whomping Willow is a very valuable, very violent tree planted alone in the middle of the school grounds. It was planted to disguise the opening to a secret passage from Hogwarts to the Shrieking Shack. There is a way to temporarily paralyze the tree. There is a particular knot on the trunk which can be pressed using a long branch in order to stop the attacks.

There is a wide flat lawn opposite the castle from the forest and Hagrid's hut where the First Years took their first flying lesson. The sloping lawns lead down toward the forest and border the lake. Come to the lawns to have a picnic or hang out, play some muggle sports if you want to as well!

No New Posts The City

London is the capital city of both the United Kingdom and the constituent country of England. The ancient City of London to which the name originally belonged still retains its mediaeval boundaries; but the name "London" has long applied more generally to the whole metropolis which has grown up around it. Heathrow International Airport is located within the great city.

No New Posts Purge and Dowse aka St. Mungo's

St. Mungo’s Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries is reached via Purge and Dowse, Ltd. in Muggle London. Purge and Dowse, Ltd. is an red-brick, old-fashioned department store that has “Closed for Refurbishment” signs hanging on its doors. One speaks to the ugly dummy in the front window, who will nod its assent and beckon you to enter. In a process very similar to how one gets onto Platform 9 and 3/4, one walks into the window. The Healers at St. Mungo's are trained and equipped to treat a wide variety of magic-related illnesses and injuries.

No New Posts Ministry of Magic

The headquarters of the Ministry of Magic is located in the heart of London. A visitor to the Ministry of Magic comes to a broken-down red telephone box located on a dingy street which has several shabby offices, a pub, and a wall covered with graffiti. When the telephone in the box is dialed (62442, the word M-A-G-I-C), the welcome witch's voice answers, not from the phone but from the air as if the person is standing right there. Visitors must state their business, upon which a silver badge pops out with the visitor's name and purpose of visit. Then the telephone box drops down like a lift for about one minute, after which the visitor is in the Atrium.
