Enjoying the fresh, slightly chilly air after the heat of the greenhouse her students followed her. After a short trek they arrived near a huge willow tree, which swayed ominously in the breezy air.
"This Whomping Willow was planted at Hogwarts relatively recently, only about forty-five years ago or so."
"Whomping Willows are very protective trees, and they are good guards for your house or castle--there's only a few problems with them. The first, as you can guess from the name, is that they are very...violent."
The professor turned and waved her wand at a fallen branch. "Wingarduim Leviosa!" She said. The branch lifted into the air and made its way over to the Whomping Willow. There was a pause, an ominous creaking, and then WHOMP as the branch was smooshed into the ground by a huge knobby willow branch.
"As you see, and as the infamous Boris the Bewildered discovered for himself, Whomping Willows are only good protection if they don't beat you to death while you try to get past it and into your house---and if they don't totally wreck your house. But these plants, like all magical and dangerous plants, have weaknesses. On every tree there is a knob or root that when you touch it, calms it. This tree has one as well, but since I don’t want any of you playing with the tree, I will keep the location of its weak spot to myself.
"Are we going to have to fight this...?" One boy asked his voice cracking.
"No, no, nothing like that. I don't want to have to send anyone to the hospital wing today. In fact, I forbid you all to try and touch the tree...it's dangerous." She looked severely at all the students. "What I would like, is for you all to draw a sketch of this tree. While you sit and draw, I had the house elves prepare us a picnic this morning..." She waved her wand, and blankets and picnic baskets appeared in groups on the grass, out of range of the Whomping Willow's wild branches.
"When you're done with your sketch and your lunch, you're free to go! See you next week." --------------- Homework: Pick one for class credit or do both for extra points. 1.) RP the lesson, or 2.) draw a sketch of the Whomping Willow. (Post both here)

Darla follows professor Antula to the Whomping Willow, telling herself firmly that there's nothing to worry about a simple tree. Okay, a tree that likes to beat everybody up and not that simple maybe, but still a tree.
She sits down on the ground and listens to the professor as she talks about the tree, and takes some notes. It is nice to be outside, even under the shadow of a large whipping tree. She shrugs and continues taking notes. She looks up at the tree, and shrugs again.
She is very glad they won't go any nearer to the tree. She looks up at the tree again and begins drawing.
((Sorry it's a bit too short ))

Katie skipped behind, and sat beside Darla. She took notes, and smiled. Then, looked at the 'Willow. It wasn't that evil. Jeesh- It's just a tree. She pouted, and stared muching on her lunch while drawing her sketch. [How long does this have to stay on my Photobucket?]

Taryn saw the Whomping Willow which she was deathly afraid of. She deicded to stay as far away from it as possible. She sat down with some paper and a sketching pen and started to draw. She liked to draw but wasn't that good at it. she looked up at the tree and began drawing, first the trunk and then the branches. When she tilted her head it looked somewhat like the willow. She shrugged and kept drawing. She decided to draw a person near the tree so she drew a girl that was scared of the tree. She smiled at her lame drawing but it was a drawing none-the-less. When she was finished, she was starving so she picked up a roll and ate it. When finished with her munching, she got up and left, leaving her drawing with Professor Antula.

Tash followed the others to the whomping willow. She sat down on a random spot. She had been to the tree like a zillion times before and known not much about it. It was good to know about it cus otherwise she would have maybe known nothing about it at all. She was very intrested in it. She got out of her quill and parchment. She jotted down notes for both her personal use and for her future use. Tash wrote them down as Tara spoke. She wasn't a very fast writer though so she was only half way through the notes by the time Tara had finished. She ended up rushing them. They were only just legible, she had have to write them up neater some other time. Tash was glad that they got to draw the tree. She wasn't bad at art, she was good at crafts and she loved sketching which she guess she was pretty good at. She always found herself doodling when she was in random moods. It was normally when Julia was out because most of the time Julia was there, they would be having pillow fights and what not. She never really drew anything else apart from lemons or something that was related to lemons. She was quite good at drawing lemons because of all the practice. She looked at the tree and tried to picture it in her head. She started drawing, looking up every few seconds. She started with the bottem, giving it as much detail as possible. She then moved on to the branches, trying to make her drawing look like what it was supposed to be. She gave the brances detail too. Once she was done, added some colour to it and smiled. She then ate her lunch.

Karna practically skipped across the lawns as she followed the rest of the herbology class to the Willow. She settled neatly upon the grass and listened as the professor explained the lesson for the day, and jotted down a few notes. She laughed as Professor Antula described Boris the Bewildered. Mentally cross that one of the list, she giggled. "Are we going to have to fight this...?"She smirked as she heard someone ask. Oh, yes, that’s it exactly, she thought sarcastically. She shrugged as the professor forbad them from getting near it. She had several times, and it had never hurt her, but there was always a first time. A sketch, huh? she thought and rifled through her notebook, finding the sketch she had made previously, and the small poem she had written. Nope, I can do so much better. She backed up slightly from the tree, and found the perfect angle. As she settled back to the ground, she looked around, hoping she wasn’t blocking anyone’s view, noting that she was quite a distance from anyone else, she shrugged and studied the tree for several moments. She closed her eyes a moment, memorizing how she wanted it to look, and quickly set to work, her drawing looking very rough at first, but soon morphing into a recognizable Whomping Willow. She decided to add a bit of color, something new for her, and looked over the final results. "Oh, wow," she muttered. "Think I'll stick to black and white." She shrugged and handed the picture in. **{{Added the picture}}

When Alex arrived at the Whomping Willow with the rest of his class he sat down in a ramdom spot and looked at the Profeesor. he had been to the tree many times before but never actually got hurt by it.
He listened to the boy who asked the question and smiled slightly everyone knows we are he said to himself sarcastically. He looked around at the students and back at the boy. As he brought his attention to the Professor when she began to talk about drawing a picture of the whomping willow aw man he said as he began to turn to a different page in his notebook, he began to draw the tree.
not very good he said looking at his picture and at the Whomping willow when he was done. I'm very bad at this he said still comparing the two. He turned to a different page and started all over again.
Once he was finished he looked at his work "Much better" he said so no one could hear. Seeing he had three images of the tree he looked at them not caring witch one looked best. He shrugged and just handed one in.

Walking to the Whomping Willow, Cairyn could see it from afar and smiled slightly. She had visited the whomping willow once or twice the entire time she was here at Hogwarts, mainly because she wanted to see it in it's 'scaryness'. Smiling, Cairyn sat down as she pictured the whomping willow in her mind, trying to picture it on paper. Failing badly, Cairyn sighed as she took out a piece of paper and tried to draw the tree on the paper, meanwhile munching on a roll as she sketched a faint drawing of the willow, then shading it a little harder, coloring it in, then finally drawing the grass, and the 'moving' motions. Looking at it from afar, Cairyn had the strange temptation to rip the whole page into pieces and try again. She sighed, as she passed it up to the professor and meanwhile, took another roll, smiling. She liked those rolls. "Professooor, the house elves coook goood.." Cairyn said, grinning silly, as she took a curry puff and munched on it silently, as she leaned on a random tree near her, watching as the whomping willow waved violently at a bird, who happened to flying past.. 0__o [arghh sorry the drawing's so crap. I would have drawn it on paper, but I don't have a scanner, and paint's the next best thing I could use.]

Kitty was very excited. She, as a first year, had heard of the famous whomping willow but she hadn't had any time to actually go down to the grounds and take a look. When the Professor anounced the lesson of the day was a "feildtrip" to the tree, she almost squealed. She walked with the class over the grounds and to a stop in front of the Willow. Looking up at the tree, her first impression was that it was an ordinary tree. The Professor levitated a branch toward the tree and Kitty raised her eyebrows. Suddenly, a limb came down and violently crushed the poor twig. Kitty let her mouth drop open slightly. After a suprise meal from the genorous house elves, Kitty sat down and got to work on her drawing.

Alex followed his other classmates to the Whomping Willow. He listened as Professor Antula told them about the Whomping Willow. He stared at the tree not listening to the point where she told them not to touch it. He takes off running to the tree. "I am not a chicken! I will touch it." He made it about 20 feet in front of the tree. He looks back at his classmates. He turns back around but as soon as he did the branch came down knocked him about 20 feet in the air. He lands on his side. Alex gets up holding his ribs and had a couple of scratches on his face. Alex then runs back to his classmates fighting off the pain and barely made it back before the Whomping Willow could strike him again. Alex walked up to Professor Antula. "I think I need to go see the nurse."
