Cory was in the midst of chomping down some lunch. When all of a sudden he had a thought. Yah see some people get thoughts on the toilet or laying in there bed. Well Cory's thoughts came while he was eating. Which was good because he ate at LEAST 3 times a day. Soo that gave him alot of thought. Granted they weren't always the best of ideas. Like when he had a thought that he should try being a sword swallower. But luckily Cory had common sense... sort of.
But this thought wasn't half bad. Actually it was a gooden. After he was done eating he was going to skip off to the dungeons. Ok, he never said they were looong detailed thoughts. Anyway, he finished up his food and got ready to head out. He was ready for his journey. Well it wasn't really a journey considering he wasn't facing any danger. But Cory just pretended like he was. He would dodge enemy fire and everything. Oh yes Cory's imagination was always running.
Finally, he made it to his destination. The DUN DUN DUNNNNNN, Dungeons ;D He walked forward and instantly noticed the creepy darkness of the place. It didn't smell very nice either..unless that was him... hopefully not. He wasn't sure why anyone went down there. Maybe because they had crazy eating Epiphanies too. Anyway, Cory officially decided the place was extremely boring. And that he needed to find something to do, in order to make his lunch Epiphany actually useful.
He crept up to the opening of the dungeon and looked out in the corridor. He decided that he would scare the next person that went across. He waited and waited and waited and waited. He yawned as he leaned against the wall. He also made the arms on his watch move quickly like they did in the movies. But now he had no clue what time it was. "..darn it!" he said hitting the watch as if it would fix itself. "STUPID THING!" he said and took the watch off and threw it further into the dungeon.
He thought after it hit the ground there was a weird noise after it but he wasn't sure if it was just his mind playing tricks on him or what. He quickly focused his attention back to the corridor waiting for someone to show up. "Does no one come down here?" He said to himself. Hoping that he was wrong. And just at that moment he heard some movement up ahead. "... Maybe this is my chance..."

Kit's big brother had never ceased to tease her and scare the living daylights out of her with his exaggerated, horrifying tales of Hogwarts. "They make all firsties go through a gruesome training process, Kit... I mean, hexes and cursed objects and blood-sucking elves galore... few survive to tell the tale. Elves? Oh, right, the elves! Well, sometimes if the dorms aren't cleaned out well enough, you can find them under the beds... AND THE DUNGEON! Kit, never, EVER go into the dungeon! Twenty basilisks live down there, and trust me, they have nothing against tearing apart little girls... in fact, I might have accidentally told them about you before I left... sorry if you find yourself hunted."
Although incredibly nervous to enter Hogwarts, Kit had of course found no gruesome firstie boot camp... no hexes and cursed objects... and certainly no elves. Well, blood-sucking ones under the beds, at least. But one warning she had heeded, whether she'd meant to or not, was to never go into the dungeon.
"Well, what's there in the dungeon anyway?" she would tell herself (and yes, in quotation marks, because Kit tended to talk aloud to herself even when she meant to have a private inner conversation, and yes, people did stare). "It's not that I'm TRYING to avoid it... it's just... why would I want to go down there? I have no reason to... plus it's probably all yucky."
But of course, Kit couldn't help but cast a wary glance down the darkened staircase leading to the dungeon every time she walked by it. For some reason it beckoned her... it was like her brother, mocking her, daring her to come and prove that there was nothing down there and that her brother was a lying, mean moron. And usually Kit would ignore the incessant mocking in her head. But today.... today she heard... a noise.
"Hello?!" Kit whispered, stopping, crouching, and staring into the dark depths. Of course, if anyone was down there they certainly wouldn't have heard her hushed greeting. She stared for a moment before gulping. Maybe she should... check things out...
Tentatively, Kit began to take steps down the stairs, wincing as the sound bounced off the damp walls. As she neared the base of the staircase, she saw a discarded ring. "Oh my God," she whispered, doing that talking aloud thing again. "A ring... MAYBE THAT'S ALL THAT'S LEFT OF WHOEVER THE BASILISKS JUST ATE."
Shaking her head, she chided herself, "STOP IT! There's nothing there, you idiot. You're being craazzzyyy again... mother's going to put you in a home... shhh, shhh."
Still... now that she was here... she supposed she had to just walk on in and return the ring to whoever had discarded it, right? To whoever had NOT been eaten by twenty basilisks? And then she could just go back upstairs and live her life and think (aloud) all about how much of a stupid liar her big brother was. Making her afraid of the dungeon when she was almost a fifth year... puh!
Scooping up the ring with bravado, Kit cleared her throat and marched on in, turning the corner. And then the only thing Kit knew was that there was something inches from her face that was larger than her, and dark, and shadowy, and almost lying in wait. Of course, she processed this information in .5 seconds.
A MOTHEREFFIN' BASILISK.
"AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" she screeched, chucking the ring behind her. Her brother had actually been right! And now she'd die for treating him like a moron! Oh, God, she should have learned something about this in Defense Against the Dark Arts. What did you do with basilisks? Oh, crapcracrap, they could kill you by looking at you. She had to get the hell away. Kit shut her eyes and tried to turn tail and run, but of course she wound up running into a wall in her attempt to escape. She fell back onto the floor and then scrambled to her front, trying to crawl away with her eyes closed and really only succeeding in bumping into more things. She wasn't sure if she'd rather die by the basilisk or by whatever the hell she was going to run into with her eyes shut. Man, her nose had taken a beating with that first run-in. WHEN WOULD THE HORROR END?

Just as Cory was about to discard the movement he heard as wind. Someone came around the corner and just started screaming. I mean like freaking out. Of course this frightened Cory who was already a little spooked. "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!" he yelled back. Mainly closing his eyes and cringing. Not wanting to be attacked by this crazy mutant human. Then Cory heard a bang and apparently the mutant human, slammed into the wall. Maybe something was covering it's crazy third eye, or something. Then it started crawling around bumping into other things. He wanted to whack it with like a stick but he didn't have a stick handy dandy for him. He could use his wand but he wasn't good at spells and would prolly just turn it into a bigger mutant human. But Cory decided he should pull out his wand just in case and maybe light it to get a better look at the thing. or maybee, it would be afraid of the light and run away. While he pulled his wand from his pocket the thing bumped into his leg. Quickly he pulled his wand up. "Lumos!" He said giving him light. He would add a funny saying like 'let there be light' but this wasn't the time for humor. With the wand now lit he could get a good glimpse of this beast. But as he looked down all he saw was Kit, on her knees, holding up a ring, with her eyes shut. OOHH GOSSHHH SHE WAS PROPOSINGGG? ? But... how could she?? They were soo young... And in a dark dungeon of all places... not romantic at all. Quite creepy actually. But he knew he had to say something... I mean he couldn't just stay silent and let the nerves get to the girl. "...Kit... I...Uhh.. Don't really know what to say.... I mean it's a beautiful ring...but.." He said as he took the ring from her grasp and examined it. It was a bit girly too, so it was an interesting choice. But hey, they were teenagers... what could they really afford? And it wasn't even close to fitting his finger. "...erm this is really nice... I just think it's a bit too soon... I mean I'm only a fifth year... and I still wanna do thingss and go places... I just don't think I'm ready to settle down yet..." He said and sighed. With that he handed back the ring and closed her hand over it. "..Im really sorry..." Poor thing, he had to break the girls heart. But i mean they hadn't even dated... it was such a surprise. And they were still quite young... i mean who knows maybe he could accept that someday but today... in a dark musty dungeon at the age of 15... he just was not ready for that type of commitment. She seemed to be in a bit of pain. Of course, stupid Cory thought it was from him letting her down. But most likely it was from slamming into things at such a rate. He knelt down next to her and patted her back. "..it's ok kiddo..." Ohh man... poor...poor girl.

Before she knew it, there was a light shining in Kit's face. Oh, Merlin. This was it, for sure. She'd looked into the eyes of the basilisk and now she was going towards the light, which hopefully led toward heaven... I mean, if everything had to go wrong for her, THAT at least should go right. She was dead, dead, dead all right, deader than a doorknob, stone cold dead, a dead duck. When the light receded from her eyes, she braced herself to see some all-powerful being... and instead saw Cory.
Holy crapolie! He was dead too? She opened her mouth to say something, but before she could even talk he'd removed the ring she'd forgotten she'd picked up from her hand and was staring at it in befuddlement. She closed her mouth and frowned, unsure of what to say. Maybe she hadn't died after all. Maybe she'd just gone down to the dungeon and made a fool of herself, and Cory was there. I mean, this was an unmistakable pattern in her life. Fall on her ass, look like an absolute lunatic, break every bone in her body, have the most embarrassing moment of her life to date... and there was Cory, magically there on the sidelines, witnessing it all.
Cory started blathering on and on... something about wanting to do things, not wanting to settle down... Kit stared at him for a moment in utter bewilderment, wondering if he'd gone insane, before she realized how she was positioned on the floor and how he'd taken the ring from her speechlessly. Oh... CRAP. CRAP CRAP CRAP UGH FAGII3O4KAL,;. She was DEFINITELY NOT DEAD!
Kit twisted up her face. She almost had an urge to cry, she was so embarrassed. And then the twisting-up motion caused a searing pain to go through her bumped-up nose, and then she had to use every ounce of strength in her to really NOT cry. Cory obviously saw the expression on her face because he was suddenly by her side, patting her back and awkwardly comforting her. OH, GOD. This was too much.
"I'm not... it's not... I didn't... !" she squeaked, utterly flustered. When he didn't stop with the patting, she shook with frustration and grabbed the ring out of his hand, flinging it into the depths of the dungeon. "I DIDN'T PROPOSE TO YOU!!" she screeched, her cheeks burning bright red. She paused for a moment, taking deep heaving breaths and doing her best to coax the tears back in and regain her composure. Trying to look as sane as possible, Kit crossed her arms over her chest and nodded sagely as if she'd been in complete control of the situation from the start.
"I thought I heard something... I came downstairs to investigate and to prove to myself, and my brother, that there were no twenty basilisks down here... and I found that ring at the bottom of the stairwell, and then I ran into you and thought you were a basilisk, and then I closed my eyes so you wouldn't kill me and ran around and bumped into walls..." She stopped to rub at her nose and wince before nodding and smiling at him as if nothing had happened.
"So... we'll just... put this all behind us and never speak of it again, right? The whole... ring thing... the ring was never here at all, really, I mean we'll never see it again, I just threw it, that was all a fright-induced hallucination anyhow. What were YOU doing down here, Cory?" she asked, all too enthusiastically.

As he was down on the groud with her. She started to speak, but at the beginning he figured she was just saying. 'i'm not upset' or 'it's not a big deal' or 'i didn't want to wait' Or yah know all things like that. It wasn't until she screeched and threw the ring into the depths of the dungeon, that he realized what she was saying. Cory stood up sharply. "Well than!" he said a bit offended at the sudden outburst. "Well why didn't you just say so then?" he said folding his arms across his chest. "...i didn't want you too propose anyway...hmmmph." He said sticking his nose in the air. Well she didn't have to be soo harsh with it. A simple, 'oh no, i theres a misunderstanding' would have sufficed. And then she went on to talk about how she came about. And her journey down to the dungeon. He was half listening.. I mean he caught the gist. Although he did hear the part about the basilisk. "Ohhh well there IS a basilisk... I'm pretty sure i heard him right before you came down here making all the commotion." he said nodding a matter of factly. Of course, he never knew what that noise was. Or even if it was a noise at all. But he couldn't pass up an oppurtunity to do what he intended to do right?? And that's scare Kit.... well his original purpose didn't apply specifically to Kit...but hey since she is down here. And is all 'NO I HATE YOU AND DONT WANNA PROPOSE TO YOU! she deservedd some scaring. "never speak of it again??? Ohh i don't know Kit. I mean I'm not sure i can keep you proposing to me a secret... " he said trailing off. "What am i doing down here?" he repeated the question. "well it's simple. I had a eating epiphany, yah see. And you always gotta listen to the epiphany's. And it's good i did or else you'd be down here proposing to the basilisk instead of me... And If that happened i don't think you'd be alive at the time of the wedding." he said shrugging and laughed.

Kit smacked her forehead with her palm when Cory started acting all indignant. "No, no, no, that's not what I meant..." she mumbled, finding herself embarrassed all over again. "It's not that I don't... I mean, it's not that I wouldn't... well, it's just... no, I didn't mean... if we were... OH, NEVERMIND!" she cried, throwing her hands up in exasperation. Let him be convinced that she was disgusted by him or anything happening between them, well, not that there was, or not that there would, or... well, whatever it was, it didn't bother her at all! Nope, not in the slightest bit.
Stopping herself to listen to Cory as he carried on, Kit paled completely. And yes, that's saying something, since she always has her shame-induced rosy cheeks. "There... there's no basilisk," she insisted weakly, looking around herself and bringing her knees into her chest. No, no, no... that was all a myth... a myth fed to her by her mean older brother who wanted to see her suffer... right?
Normally Kit would have freaked out at/yelled at/threatened/begged Cory to really not tell anyone about something that would embarrass the socks off of her (i.e., the ring incident), but right now she was a little preoccupied by her massive fear of a basilisk coming out of the darkness. These were crazy, dark times... maybe her brother hadn't been so wrong after all.
"CORY! There can't be a basilisk!" She reached up and grabbed his robes, tugging them towards her. "I forgot how to fight them! We learned first year, and I DON'T REMEMBER A DAMN THING! Or if I do, I'm having a MAAAJOORRR BLANK HERE!" Oh, God, how could he be so nonchalant?
Kit immediately shut up and froze when she swore to Merlin she heard a noise behind her. In two seconds time she was back up on her feet and hiding behind Cory. "Oh, God, it's coming! We have to get ooouttt of heeereee!" she whispered into his back.

Cory raised an eyebrow as Kit went on. She wasn't making much sense. But then she shouted 'oh nevermind' Making Cory take a step back. "Well then that's how it's going to be then eh?" He didn't know what he was saying but it felt like an appropriate phrase for the situation. Seeing Kit's face when he told her there was a basilisk, was priceless. Then she started to grab his robes and pull him towards her. "Sure Kit... of course there's a Basilisk everyone knows that...duh." he said nodding his head.
He tried to make the act believable but it was sort of easy. Because when someone has a fear like that... playing with there mind wasn't hard. "Ohh don't worry about fighting it.. if it actually came out.. we wouldn't have a chance at fighting it. We'd just be eaten like little after dinner mints." he said nodding his head and tried to stifle a giggle. Man this sure was fun... it was mean...but still fun.
And Cory would drop the act eventually and tell her that he didn't know if there was or wasn't a basilisk. Which now that he thought about it... he wasn't sure that would exactly calm Kit down. But just as he pondered this thought Kit was all of the sudden hiding behind him. "Oh my goodness i think your right." He said and pointed. There was a large shadow on the wall. Except it wasn't coming from the depths of the dungeon but from the opening to where the corridor is and where the stairs were that led up and out of the dungeon.
He could hear noise coming from there. It was a subtle noise, not very loud but it was still there. And it was getting closer and closer by the second. "I'll save you Kit... you stay here...If i don't come back alive... I just want you too know........You're a Klutz." he said and walked forward and around the corner. "AHHHHHHHHHHH" He shouted loudly. "HES GOT MEE... HES GOT ME." And with that Cory turned back around the corner holding his pet dog. "OHH DEAR THE BASILISK." He said and fell on the floor laughing.

Kit couldn't help but whimper in fear as Cory seemed quite sure that there was a basilisk hiding out somewhere down here. "How can you be so calm?!" she hissed at him. "These are our deaths we're discussing! And by the sounds of it, not so quick and painless ones!" As she would hear (or maybe think she heard) the slightest noise or movement in the dark dungeon, Kit would yelp, jump, and try to use Cory as a human shield standing between herself and wherever the noise had come from. "We need to go we need to go we need to go!"
Of course, right as she began to relay the urgency with which they should leave, the opening to the dungeon was darkened by a shadow. Kit fell silent and froze stiffly, staring at the shadow that seemed to be lengthening and listening for the sound of something approaching. Of course, the fact that it was something entering the dungeon and not coming from within the dungeon didn't really register in Kit's mind at the moment. All she knew was she was scared, she was more than halfway convinced that there was a basilisk down here, and something was approaching and she didn't know what.
As Cory began to walk away from her, Kit let out an "eep!" and hugged herself to his legs, trying to prevent him from going forward. "No Cory, no! It'll kill you! Don't do it! Don't make yourself basilisk bait!" Of course she was left on the dungeon floor as he proceeded, acting all brave and calm. She stared up at him with tears filling her eyes as he perhaps left her his parting words... "You're a klutz."
"What!" Kit cried in a sudden flash of indignancy. "Don't call me that!" She attempted to scramble to her feet and defend her honor, but of course she stepped on her robe while trying to stand and fell back to the ground, smacking her chin on the floor. "Ow..."
Damn her clumsiness... of course, now it was too late. Cory had already gone to confront the monster. And by the sounds of it... HE WAS DYING!
"Nooooooo! Cory, come back! You can't just insult me and die!" Panicked, Kit tried to crawl her way over to the opening. "I'LL SAVE YOU!" Of course, then Cory came back!... with a dog.
"... What," was all Kit could say as her friend fell to the floor with laughter. She stared at him speechlessly for a few minutes before grinding her teeth. "That's... not... funny."
