Acamapichtli moseyed along down the crowded hallway with a certain someones notebook in hand. Yes, he was FINALLY going to read Melissa's precious book of secrets. It was difficult trying to read it with her around all the time so once again, he was forced to find the one place she was least likely to look for him. The detention hall seemed like the obvious choice because it was the very place in which their epic battle took place and who would expect him to return to the scene of the crime?
When he was certain no one was following him, he poked his head inside the room to make sure the room wasn't occupied, and quickly stepped inside..shutting the door behind him. Alas, her inner most secrets would be revealed to him. He hopped on one the the desks and opened the notebook to the first page. What he saw was very typical of Melissa, hearts and poorly drawn anime characters. Acama continued flipping through the pages, determined to find something interesting.

Wanting a nice break from class and the sometimes unnerving amount of people walking along the corridors, Isis made her way to the detention hall. She was pretty sure there wouldn't be anyone in there, mainly because you'd have to have gotten detention to be in the hall, and you'd have to have done something really wrong/dumb/inappropriate to get detention. As far as she knew, no one had done anything wrong/dumb/inappropriate lately so she walked towards the hopefully empty room for some peace and quiet. She knew she could have gone to the library, but she didn't really want to be around books at the moment. She was starting to get a twitch from reading so much.
Isis glanced left and right, looking to see if there was anyone around to see her go in. She saw no one and she tiptoed towards the door, not exactly sure why she was sneaking into the detention hall. Sheesh, Isis thought as she pushed open the door, it's not like anybody's going to be in - "Oh!" Isis exclaimed, for there was someone there. It was, of all people, Acamapichtli Arroyo. Her sort-of-but-not-admitting-to-herself-and-certainly-not-to-Melissa crush. "Sorry," she said, undecided as to whether to back out or come all the way in. "I-I didn't kn-know anyone w-was in here." Oh, Merlin, she was stuttering. She hated it when she stuttered.

Damn, what is it with girls and hearts? The first ten pages were filled with nothing but girly poems and hearts and...wow, the girl really needed to take some kind of drawing lessons. Her skills weren't as bad as his, but they were pretty gruesome. Acama was never one for drawing or anything artsy, primarily because he could barely manage a stick figure. Oh well, it wasn't like he'd need it for the real world anyway. His poor eyes could no longer stand the abuse. He tossed the book to the side and stretched his arms out. Man, what a bummer. He was hoping to find something juicy enough to use as blackmail, but it seemed as though he was out of luck.
Sighing, he retrieved the now useless book of mushy girly goodness and reached over to open the door when something very unexpected happened. "Oh hi, no..it's okay." It was the girl from herbology, Isis..the one who was passing notes to Melissa. He stepped aside to give her some room and absentmindedly set the book down. "Umm do you have detention now? Or if you came here for some alone time, I was just on my way out." Even though his brain was telling him to head for the hills, part of him hoped she wouldn't mind some company.

Isis blushed, for reasons known only to her circulatory system, because it was the last thing she expected to do when Acama started talking to her. Perhaps it was because of what Melissa wrote on the note. Congratulations. I hope you are happy together. She'd never been able to clarify it with the other girl so it kind of felt... weird to be around Acama. Especially since Isis was pretty sure that she did like him, even if in her head she kept saying no. "Um, no," she answered. "I don't do detention. I mean, I don't have detention. Just.. alone time, yes. No, wait!" What the heck was wrong with her? Her brain and her mouth seemed to have disconnected and nothing was making sense. She took a moment to collect herself, trying very hard not to make it obvious to Acama but knowing he probably noticed anyway. "Wh-what I meant to say was, I wouldn't... mind if you wanted to stay," she finally said.
Having at least been able to get her thoughts across, Isis looked around and bit her lip in the somewhat awkward silence. Noticing a notebook lying open, she picked it up, wondering whose it was. She flipped through pages and was about to ask Acama if it was his when a drawing of a big heart caught her eye. "Oh," she said, slightly intrigued. It was Melissa's notebook.... and Isis shouldn't be reading it. Guiltily snapping it shut, Isis held the notebook out to Acama, not quite meeting his eye. "Um, Melissa's notebook," was all she managed to say. Damn, even when she was talking about something else, she was flustered around him.

Acama couldn't help but laugh a little. She was behaving rather strangely, almost like she was nervous. He couldn't imagine why anyone would feel uneasy around him, unless maybe she was afraid of him. He understood how he could come off as intimidating to others, since he hardly ever smiled or laughed in the presence of his fellow classmates. On the other hand, if she was afraid wouldn't she have just told him she had detention or made up some kind of excuse to get him to leave? He was officially confused now.
"Oh wait that's not mine!" Too late, she was already flipping through the pages. "Uh yeah Melissa's...and definitely not mine.." As he reached out and stepped forward to get the notebook, he tripped over his untied shoelaces and stumbled toward her, resulting in his hand landing in a not so good place.
"Oh my god I'm so sorry! It was an accident I swear!" he looked down and realized his hand was still there, and reeled back like a dementor was about to suck his soul out, until he was backed up against the bookshelf.
" Heh...You wanna go the Yule Ball with me and my friends?" he blurted out.

Isis froze when Acama's hand landed on her... well.. yeah. She didn't think she could turn any redder, but suddenly the room felt extremely tight. Her eyes shut, she kept repeating in her head, Find a happy place, find a happy place. Vaguely, she heard Acama apologize and felt him move away. Somehow Isis knew she should be pissed off, but she was too be embarrassed to be angry. She turned away from him and put her hands on her face. Her cheeks felt so hot she was surprised that she wasn't bursting into flames.
Then she heard Acama ask her to the Yule Ball. Or at least for her to come with him and his friends. "Seriously?" she mumbled, still not turning around. She made it sound like she was just confirming what she heard, but she was dying to add, 'after what just happened?'. "I - I guess so?" she said, after a while, surprising even herself, even though it sounded like a question, if anything.

He didn't know why he said it. He was never a big fan of the dance and only went because Melissa wanted to. He just had to say something, ANYTHING to distract her from what just happened. The Yule Ball had been the main focus of discussion for the last several weeks and although it was the farthest thing from his mind, he somehow managed to ask Isis to attend with him and the rest of the L.A.P.D.... subconscious desire surfacing perhaps? No way, there was just no way. He didn't like her like that, not even remotely. So what if he sometimes had the urge to carry her books for her, it didn't mean a damn thing.
She didn't sound too thrilled by the idea and the last thing he wanted was for her to go with them and be miserable. "You know, you don't have to go with us if you don't want. If you already have plans of your own or if it's too weird, that's fine. But if you wanna join us, that's cool too..just think on it and let me know.." he smiled reassuringly, hoping she wasn't still afraid. "So why'd you come here anyway? I was just hiding from Melissa so I could read her dumb notebook in private, but I didn't find anything good." he pulled out two chairs and motioned for her to sit, before sitting down himself. "Hey tell me, do you draw hearts all over your notebooks and write your crush's name all over, do all girls do that?"

There must be something really wrong with me, Isis thought. The guy I like just asked me to go to a dance with him and I as good as said no. She bit her lip and fidgeted. The embarassing moment had passed and she realized that she had made it sound like she didn't want to go to the Yule Ball with Acama and his friends. But she did. She really did.
Turning around and lowering her hands, Isis looked at Acama, though she quickly lowered her eyes. The awkwardness wasn't gone, after all. "No, I'd love to go with you guys," she said, quietly, biting her lip. "And, no, I don't have other plans. Nobody else asked." Taking a seat on one of the chairs that Acama pulled out, Isis laughed about his reason for coming to the detention hall. "I bet Melissa would go bananas if she knew what you were doing in here," she said, pushing her hair back from her face. His next question made her think back. She only ever wrote Acama's name on her notes once, and even then it was done unconsciously. "It's only ever happened once or twice, but I don't do hearts. I'm not in the habit of doing that, but I suppose most girls do," Isis replied, thoughtfully. Her chin in her hand, she smiled at Acama. "Are you telling me you've never doodled a girl's name on a piece of parchment, ever?"

Okay it was settled, they were all going together. The only issue was convincing Morse and Melissa that she wouldn't be going as his date, but as a friend. It really wasn't a date after all, at least he thought it wasn't. Acama wasn't too savvy when it came to boy/girl relationships and all the lingo that accompanied them. All he knew was that it most definitely wasn't a date. He just wasn't ready for all the drama and was in no hurry to rush things. Besides, it wasn't like Isis liked him or anything.
"Ha yeah, she'd push me down the stairs if she found out. She damn near killed me when I took it from her.." he snickered, going over the events in his head. At her next question, he laughed. "Me? Yeah right. I'm not much of a doodling type of guy. I'm too busy worrying about what's going to be served for lunch." Speaking of lunch, he was rather hungry. "So what do you do for fun, besides doodle?" He tried to drown out the incessant stomach growling, but wasn't doing such a good job.

But what would I wear? Isis thought as she eyed Acama. Should she wear heels? She hoped he wasn't too tall for her. If he was, she was going to have to get new shoes. She should get new shoes since she was going to get a new dress anyway, she realized. The dress she was originally planning to wear to the Yule Ball wasn't nice enough, now that she had a date. No, wait, a group date. Morse and Melissa were going to be there too.
Isis snapped back to reality with a slightly unpleasant bump. It wouldn't be an actual date, then. Sighing, she tried to pick up the conversation. "Huh? Oh, let's see," said Isis. "I like playing my guitar, reading, but not school books, and I like-" A growling sound coming from somewhere in the region of Acama's stomach interrupted Isis and she laughed. It reminded her that she hadn't had lunch yet. "To eat. And it sounds like you do, too!" Isis laughed. She was becoming more at ease with Acama, and decided that the part of her that was disappointed that going to the ball with him wouldn't be a date could wait until she could talk to her sister.

I'd kill to have a cheese burger right about now. The food served in school was good, there was no denying it, but eating the same kind of thing day in and day out was boring. He wished the elves down in the kitchens would spice things up a bit. The stuff prepared for the Yule Ball was always so good and it was probably one of the only reasons he bothered attending. Oh yeah....the Yule Ball. Since he was definitely going this year he couldn't put off any longer, it was time to buy something to wear. He, of course, wouldn't make the purchase himself. Acama always left that up to his grandfather. Actually, he wore the same thing two years in a row...so it really was time for him to write the old man.
Acama laughed and leaned back in his seat. "Yeah I was trying to hide it, but I guess I can't tame the wild beast. A guy's gotta eat.." He thought back to what she said about playing guitar, and smiled. "Man, I wish I knew how to play an instrument. Not the guitar though, lots of people know how to do that....maybe piano or something." In reality, he was much too impatient and had the attention span of a goldfish, so the chances of him ever learning to play the piano were slim. "Anyway, umm....yeah I can't take it anymore I'm going to lunch. You wanna come?" He figured if they ran all the way to the great hall, they'd make it in time to snag the good seats.

"Yeah, I've been playing since I was five," Isis said, realizing that she must have been a very patient five-year-old to have learned at that age. Or else she didn't have any friends to play with. "I play a little piano, too, but anyway." She wished she could talk about something else. When Acama mentioned food, she smiled. "Sure, I'll come with," she said. "I mean, if you don't mind. You're not meeting your friends? I mean, Melissa and Morse." Why the hell was she getting so flustered again?

As Acama began to get to know her a little more, he started to realize that Isis wasn't so bad. He really didn't know what to think of her at first, he never knew what to think if anyone at first. The girls in school were always so strange and he they never made good company. They were either obnoxious and rude or flirtatious and clingy, qualities he less than admired. So it was nice to meet someone with a brain...and an appetite!
"Actually, I'm not really too sure. They might have already eaten and went back to the dorms. They eat fast, I'm the one that takes forever." Damn, they were running out of time. All the greedy suckers were probably piling in at that very moment, taking all the best seats at Gryffindor table. "Come on, put a move on it!" He was standing now and already half way out the door. "Last one there has to....send Professor Frye a love letter!!" with that, he was gone.

Isis laughed again. Acama seemed to know what to say to make her feel at ease. Well, with the exception of the previous incident where he tripped and grabbed her... but that was an accident. As he headed off for the Great Hall, Isis realized she now had something to look forward to. Laughing heartily, she shook her head and took off after him. If they were lucky, they'd make it to the pudding.
