Melissa burst through the doors, her dress draped over one arm, still wrapped in plastic, high heeled shoes dangling from her fingers, makeup bag clutched under her other arm. Not that it contained much. Still under a bit of a stricture on makeup she was only allowed a few things. Last time it had been only face powder and lip gloss, and a little mascara. This time she was allowed the same, but also foundation, as well as a light amount of eyeliner. There was a liquid type lipstick included, rose colored, to be applied lightly. It wasn't the bright red many of the older attendees would be wearing, but it would complement her dress nicely without looking too garish for someone her age. She held up the dress, admiring it one last time. She didn't feel comfortable dressing in her dorm room, Churro and Mori-sempai could burst in at any moment. And no doubt they would mock her as she tried to apply the makeup. She was already nervous, as she wasn't too familiar with it. She slipped the dress on, and zipped it as high as she could, and decided to wait to get some help with the rest of the way. It was a classic LBD, (little black dress) knee length black velvet. It was not too deeply cut, and had wide straps over the shoulders, crisscrossing in the back. She loved it the minute she set eyes on it. She slipped on her stockings, taking care not to snag them. She eyed her shoes warily. She loved the idea of high heels, and had been practicing all week. The shoes were simple, and velvet as was her dress. They were three inch heels, and none to narrow. She felt confident she'd be fine in them, and smiled down at her feet. Already five foot six, she had worried about about the added height, but when she saw how her legs looked longer, her back seemed straighter and how it seemed to make her look just a bit older, she just couldn't resist. She sighed and stared at her hair, and the flat iron and curling irons she had brought, as well as the heated curlers. She wasn't sure what she was going to do, as her hair always looked a bit rough, and she was very definitely intimidated by the idea of trying to do it herself. She had a magazine and kind of knew what she wanted, but wasn't sure how to go about it. (This is for Isis and Wicki, and if there are any other girls who want to join in after them)

Wicki was exhausted. Fianlly giving in to temptation she had spent the little bit of money she had left on a dress for the Yule Ball. Being so young and going to the dance was odd but she wasn't about to miss out on it. She had found an 'appropriate' dress. Her brother would absolutely have a fit if he knew she was going to a dance much less buying a dress to go to a dance in. He would, and rightly too, assume that there was a boy involved. Wicki shied away from the thought of Abba, Jr. Time enough to think about him when she got to the dance. For now! It was Girl Time! Oh good! She wasn't the ONLY one in the bathroom. She waved at Melissa. "Oh no! I didn't even think about makeup. I think my brother would kill me as it is though!" Entering a stall to change Wicki laughed, albeit a little nervously. "I think tonight is going to be definitely interesting." She had quickly slipped into her formal dress and stockings and came out holding her slippers. She examined herself in the mirror trying to pose a little. Her dress was just about perfect. She'd had some trouble finding a dress because she was still lacking somewhat on top. Her small frame had also presented some problems since most of the dresses that had fit were children's dresses. The dress was just above her knees. Short but not short enough to give her brother heart failure if he ever saw it. It was a dark emerald green and banded around the bodice with gold. This made her non-existant chest look like it existed. (Click here for Picture of dress)Raising her wand she attempted the spell that the lady at the shop had suggested. "Flora Capillus!" Her wand was awkward in her hand since she was still staring at herself and the spell hit the mirror instead of her head. Looking behind her Wicki stifled a curse. The bathroom stall door now sported pretty flowers twined around the door. Noticing the flowers were a pretty creamy color Wicki decided to go ahead and try the spell again. "Flora Capillus!" This time the charm worked. Her red hair wove itself into a intricate knot with flowers twisted cleverly into it. A few tendrils escaped the knot and swept her cheeks. The entire hairdo and dress combined conspired to make Wicki look at least two to three years older. Instead of a child she appeared to be a girl burgeoning on womanhood. "Want to try this charm, Melissa? It's supposed to change flower colors to match your dress and hair." As Wicki spoke the flowers started to morph from creamy white to a soft dreamy green. Not that Wicki cared or anything but she had never seen green flowers before. Wicki studied herself and Melissa in the mirror and asked a little hesitantly, "So, ummm, what do you think of Abba? Junior, that is."

Melissa hadn't taken charms class yet, and was a little awed by Wicki's skill. Of course, she had probably been taught by somebody older, maybe a hairdresser or older student or something. She kept the spell in mind, but didn't want to match Wicki. Her style matched her dress and she didn't want to draw attention away from that. Maybe during the spring she'd try it, or summer. "It's awful pretty, Wicki. I think I'm just going to keep it simple this time though," she smiled slightly and began dividing her hair with the comb. She had separated a heavy fringe to the front that she had the salon trim the day before, it was thick and curled under just slightly giving her bangs volume. Next she separated a large section on each side near the front, revealing her ears. She pulled them up on top to make a simple flat ponytail, and cinched the big black velvet bow to it. It matched her dress and wasn't too flashy. The rest of her hair hung down loosely, falling past her shoulders. Pulling out the curling iron she curled the ends of the ponytail to make it fluffy and wavy, and began to work on the rest. She fooled with her hair a bit more before putting everything away, put on a pair of earrings, simple studs, and pulled out the makeup. She peered into the mirror and began putting on foundation when she heard the last question, making her stop still.
"Abba Junior?" she bit her lip to hide a smile, but was unsuccessful. It spread slowly across her face until she smiled widely, her eyes unfocused and a bit dreamy. "Oooh. He seemed really nice...not conceited at all...normal, when you consider everything his family has been through...and really really cute. What about you? You seemed to be kind of stuck on him too!" she added that last part with a little giggle, and turned to face Wicki.
"What do you say we put on a teensy bit of makeup to bring out your pretty face, hmm?" she waved her sponge around excitedly.

Wicki watched as Melissa quickly and efficiently did up her hair. Nodding in admiration she realized that without a spell she never would have been able to have done her hair up other than her customary twin ponytails. Boy wouldn't that have looked good with this dress, Wicki thought deprecatingly. Melissa definitely had some talent.
Wicki flushed like crazy when Melissa teased her. Her face was flaming and still she tried to act nonchalant. "Oh he's all right I guess. Kinda quiet honestly." And handy she thought with a grin at the memory. Realizing she was grinning like an idiot with no apparent reason she damped down the grin into a smile.
"I don't really know how to use make-up. I'm not allowed at home." Wicki didn't mention that the most dressed up she had ever been was Wranglers and a denim shirt so this was all kind of a first for her.
Wicki looked awkwardly at the sponge. "As long as my brother doesn't find out I'm cool with it. I just don't know how to use it. Is there some kind of charm or spell you use?"
Having been a tomboy raised by her brother and father Wicki really didn't know anything about makeup. She had some rather vague memories of her mother wearing some but she just hadn't been interested.

Melissa giggled at Wicki's attempt at a nonchalant response. "Just alright, huh?" she grinned, not wanting to tease too much but couldn't resist just a bit. After all, she had no problem herself admitting she thought he was cute, at least when he wasn't in earshot.
"Don't worry...if you can see it too clearly, someone didn't do the job right," she tried to reassure her, dipping the sponge into the foundation. Ew...too dark. She bit her lip and looked at Wicki and pulled out her face powder instead. It was several shades paler than the liquid and much closer to the other girls' natural coloring.
"I'll tell you what, I'll use only what I had my first ball...a little powder, a little mascara, and some tinted gloss, how does that sound?" she tried to sound reassuring, and without waiting for an answer began lightly tapping the compact sponge over Wicki's face. It blended well, and as she brushed her fingers lightly over Wicki's jawline to make sure there was no marked difference in skin tones between her face and neck she took a better look at her. She was just a little jealous. Bright red hair with golden highlights, big green eyes and a spattering of light tawny freckles made her absolutely adorable, and guaranteed she'd be a knockout as she got older. For just a moment she envied that hair, then shook herself out of it. They were just different enough that they set each other off well. She dug through her makeup bag and pulled out a tube of sheer gloss with an apricot tint. She had never used it, hers had always been pink or rose, but was glad it came with the package all the same. She handed it to Wicki, and stepped back.
"This will barely show, and from a distance he won't even see it, so don't worry. And there's a mascara on the shelf in front of the mirror. Put on some of the gloss, and then I'll help you with your eyes, okay?" she frowned for a moment then had to ask, "Why are you so worried about your brother finding out, does he go here?"

BEAUTY TIME!!!! yayyy. Maricela desperately needed to get away from her new room mate. She missed Natalie. The new girl was such a nerd, always in her books, never wanted to talk about boys or clothes or makeup. only BOOKS BOOKS BOOKS. I swear. She couldn't even borrow her clothes, they were hideous. Maricela is not a snob, BUT C'MON. Soo anywho, Maricela needed some "girl time," she hadn't had any since Natalie had been away.
Maricela bounced down to the bathroom with the dress her mother sent her in one hand and all her supplies and shoes in the other. Her mom had sent her a dress she designed. Maricela was currently wearing her skinny jeans and a beatles tee-shirt and her hair was in a ponytail. She was excited about the ball, even though she didn't have a date. She never got to dress up anymore. She skipped into the bathroom. But she wasn't alone. She recognized Wicki immediately, the other girl she had seen around. "Hola Chicas," she said excitedly, "May I join your little fiesta?"

AND THEN AUTUMN WANTED TO JOIN THE FUN! Yule Ball Fun before the Yule Ball, that is! Normally she was enthusiastic about everything, but the Gryffindor was nearly bouncing off the wall tonight! Why, you ask? Well, the Yule Ball only comes once a year, and it's a load of fun! People dancing, having a good time, and drinking the punch. Oh, things get really interesting when people drink that special punch. And Autumn had an actual date this year! Okay, so what if it's only her friend? It still counts! The Gryffindor is going with her Slytherin buddy, Jared Stone! The pair decided that they would have to put their differences aside for one night, but it would be completely worth it. The Gryffindor carried the rather large bag with her dress in it and her shoes carefully in her left hand, a box of make-up Cheryl McAlto (the girl that Autumn thought was her mother for the longest time) sent her a year or two ago in her right. All it really contained was a little foundation, light lipstick, and black eyeliner. The only bad part was that she never really learned how to apply make-up. Oh well, she would have to wing it and see how things went! Take a chance or two, she was preparing for the Yule Ball, for God's sake! Autumn pushed (or pulled, whichever) through the door to the girl's bathroom and managed to keep her balance which surprised her, because of the load that she was carrying. But oh no, the Gryffindor wasn't alone! Melissa Madison, a fellow Gryffindor third year, and Wicki Weasley, a new Ravenclaw who she had sort of helped learn about vampires, and a girl that Autumn had never really met before were there! Hopefully they knew a thing or two about make-up... She smiled politely as Maricela asked if she could join the party, and decided that she would ask too. It seemed like Melissa and Wicki had the bathroom first, so it seemed fair. "Me too?" Autumn asked nicely, her smile still planted.

"Bollocks!" Isis hissed as she ran down the staircases to the girl's bathroom. She wasn't quite sure this was advisable as she would be all sweaty when she got there and that wouldn't be helping her case at all. Her dress had arrived a little late, she was still deciding on shoes, and she was totally at a loss with what to do with her hair. She would have changed in her dorm room, but big sis Autumn was currently MIA, and she needed an opinion on the shoes. She figured she'd find someone to ask in the girl's bathroom so she headed that way.
Almost tripping at the doorway, Isis entered the bathroom, miraculously not sweating profusely. Inside, she found Melissa Madison, Wicki Weasley and another Ravenclaw that she hadn't met before, she realized. And her sister! Perfect! She figured she could use all the advise she could get. Hello, it was the Yule Ball! She had to look presentable at least, especially since she'd be going with Acama Arroyo... and Melissa and Morse Macnair. Smacking herself in the head, Isis reminded herself that it was a group date type thing.
"Hi," she said breathlessly, smiling at everyone. "Hey, Melissa. Hi, Wicki." Wicki was in her Charms and Herbology class, if Isis remembered correctly. "Hello," she said to the other girl. "I'm Isis. What's your name?" Isis hung her dress on a stall door and extended her hand for the other girl to shake. She dropped the paper bag she was carrying, which was filled with four, yes, four pairs of shoes. "Okay, you guys have to help me," she said to the room in general. "I have this really great dress and four pairs of shoes that I think would look great with it, but I can't decide which one to wear. I know this is, like, the absolute latest time to decide on this, but please?" She stuck her bottom lip out and made a pleading gesture.
"I'll put the dress on first and then we can see what shoes go best," Isis said, smiling some more and entering a stall carrying her dress. When she was dressed, she pulled them all out and blew out a sigh. "Okay," she said. "This one, or this one, or thisone, or this one?" Biting her lip, Isis tried not to look incredibly pathetic when she asked, "And could you help me with my make up, too?"[click on bold, red words for a visual.. ]

Right as the words Autumn had last spoken escaped her mouth, her sister, Isis, ran through the door in what seemed to be a hurry. "Hey, sis!" The Gryffindor exclaimed happily, her belongings still in hand. She saw Isis hang her dress up on the door of one of the stalls and drop her things on the floor, which seemed like a pretty good idea! Autumn placed her make-up kit and shoes on the ground nicely, and went to change from her robes to her dress. She was, anyway, until Isis asked about four different pairs of shoes. Taking a moment to examine the pairs, the only difference Autumn found in any of them was the color. But the first pair sparkled, which was almost always a plus for her. "The first pair!" The Gryffindor said happily. "They're cool, I like 'em!" With that statement, the Gryffindor hauled her tail into the first open stall and changed from her robes to the dress she had chosen to wear to the formal event. Her dress fit her nicely, which was something to be thankful for. What would she have done now if her dress was too big or too small? She would have been out of luck, basically! When Autumn came out of the stall, she zipped up the back of her dress the best that she could, that coming to about three-quarters of the way up. "Isis," Autumn asked, smiling weakly, "could you zip me up?"

Wicki dabbed on the gloss uncertainly. Thankfully, it didn't make much of a difference.
"No, Cody doesn't go here." She sighed, it would be too difficult to explain him being a squib. For some reason, people here took it horribly wrong. "He just has a way of worming things out of me. I have never been able to lie to him. And.."She added darkly. "He's waay too over protective."
Wicki looked into the mirror. She definitely looked to different but to her over critical adolescent eyes she still looked too babyish and not as pretty as Melissa. Melissa's darker coloring looked so exotic to Wicki who had often dreamed of having soft dark hair instead of the bright carroty hair she possessed. Smiling softly at Melissa Wicki spoke, "Thank you so much, Melissa! I never would have been able to do this myself."
Suddenly, the bathroom was full of bustling girls getting ready for the Ball. Maricela, Autumn, and Isis came in. All three she had met ebfore. Autumn in the Hospital Wing. Maricela was a year ahead but in the same House. Isis was in a couple of her classes with her. Wicki vaguely remembered knocking her down in the last Charms class. Waving at them all Wicki bent down to slip on her dark green velvet slippers. They were not high heeled because Wicki didn't know how to walk in high heels. Though when she looked at the taller girls surrounding her it might have been a good idea to invest in them.
In answer to Isis' question Wicki replied, "I like the black ones honestly. Though the ones Autumn likes are pretty too."
Wicki stood back and looked at everyone who was already dressed. Autumn wore a nice little number that had black polka dots on it. It would have looked horrible on Wicki but on Autumn it looked very nice indeed. Melissa wore a black velvet dress that hit her around the knees, it made her look very elegant, secretly Wicki thought Abba, Jr. might have his tongue tied when he saw Melissa and not by any jinx either! The dress Isis chose fit her personality. It was purple and just a little daring; it looked great on her.
Wicki looked at Maricela, "Let me see your dress. I'm so glad we are all dressed differently. Wouldn't it be weird if we were all wearing the same color or something?"

After Autumn and Wicki's assessments, Isis held up the two pairs they had chosen. Pursing her lips, she decided that the first pair was the way to go. "You're right, sis," she told Autumn. "These ones. Thanks! And thanks to you, too, Wicki!" After strapping on the first pair of shoes, Isis looked at herself in the mirror, trying to decide what to do with her hair. After a moment's thought, she plunged her hand into the paper bag and brought out a small jar of hair potion. She scooped out about galleon-sized amount, flipped her head forward and ran her fingers through her hair, then flipped her hair back. The effect was a slightly tousled look, her loose curls falling perfectly in style over her shoulders and down her back.
She was about to start on her make up when Autumn asked to be zipped up so Isis helped her sister out first. "Wicki has a point," Isis said as she pulled the zipper of Autumn's dress closed. "But, you have to admit, we all look smashing!" Isis giggled. She was feeling a little giddy. It wasn't her first Yule Ball, but it would be the first time she'd be going with someone, no matter if it was with a group.
That reminded Isis of something. "Um, Melissa," she began tentatively, setting down her make-up bag (that she pulled out from the paper bag, again) on the bathroom sink. "Are you going to meet Morse and, um, Acama at the ball? Or are you meeting up somewhere first then going there?" She absentmindedly pawed through the make-up kit, trying to pick the perfect shade of eyeshadow to use. "'Cause, um, Acama didn't tell me..." she trailed off as she pulled out some light foundation.

Melissa became a little tense, time was running out...she gestured at the back of her dress to Wicki, hoping she'd zip her up real fast, and caught a flash of silver as she was turning. She rubbernecked to get a better look, and yelled out in time with one of the other girls, "The first pair!!!" They were bright and cheerful, but Melissa was still a little overwhelmed at how high they were. She was definitely going to practice during the year, maybe by next ball she'd be wearing something more...adult? Fancier? What was the word she was looking for, for really freaking high, high heels? She gave a quick once over, and turned, making sure her slip wasn't showing. It would be just her luck she'd run out with toilet paper stuck to her shoe, or her slip showing...or lipstick on her teeth! She leaned in, and was tempted to shove one of the shorter girls out of the way, but decided to play nice. She just leaned on them a little to get a better look in the mirror while she checked. ^__^ Even though there were really only a few of them, it was getting warm, and a little crowded as they all began competing for space, and she stepped back a little to give the other girls room, as she was essentially finished. She stowed her change of clothes in a pink Hello Kitty duffle in the back, and slipped a purse sized perfume into her little gold clutch, then stepped into one of the empty stalls, to apply it without hitting anyone else. She sprayed a bit on lightly and breathed deeply of the faint floral scent, before rejoining the others.
She stopped at Isis' question, feeling put on the spot. According to plan, they were all supposed to meet at the ball, she had made separate plans to meet with Abba jr. and Wicki, but she knew they would all meet together at the entrance. She was going to say it didn't matter, but something in Isis' face stopped her. She wasn't sure what to say...then she guessed maybe Isis really wanted a 'real' date with Churro. She would have liked a 'real' date too, but since it was out of her hands, she was pretty complacent about it. Melissa stared at Isis for a moment, and remembered just in time not to bite her lip, or she'd be eating makeup xp.
"Umm...well...we were all going to meet at the ball, but after that we're all going to go our seperate ways to dance and stuff...We don't have to hang in one huge group all night, if you'd rather have some alone time with Ch--Acamapichtli" she answered, almost forcing the words out. It was kind of weird and Melissa didn't really understand why her stomach seemed to clench at the thought of it. She didn't want to date him herself...but it bugged her to see him alone with someone else...why was that? Was she that selfish? So greedy for attention that she had to have everyone to herself, then lock them in a box alone until she needed them again? For a moment, she felt ashamed. After all, she had her 'almost date', and it wouldn't be normal if he didn't make other friends...or girlfriends. She swallowed and felt a moment's indecision before she made her mind up.
"Don't worry Isis...I'll make sure you two get a little 'aloooone time'" she teased, forcing herself to grin and wink. "Maybe if I spot some mistletoe I'll toss it your way," she added.
(I got confused, this thread got sooo big xp. Am I helping Isis with her makeup or is someone else?)

Wicki zipped up Melissa's dress without having to be shown twice.
She then watched rubbernecked as Melissa and Isis conversed about someone named Acam.... Wicki guessed that this was one of the boys Melissa hung out with. Apparently Isis had a crush on this Acamapichtli.
Oh well none of her business. It was just about time to go meet Abba at the entrance to the Ball. She didn't have apurse which was fine since she didn't have anything to put into it. Wicki nodded at the other girls. "Are we all going to go in together?"
For a minute, she was tempted to run down without Melissa and meet Abba first. However, her sense of fair play not to mention nervousness at being alone with Abba resurfaced.
((I think Autumn needed help with makeup. I think Isis had it covered))

(Thanks. I still get my pronouns mixed up after all this time >.<)
She could see Wicki was all ready and excited, and she didn't want to hold them up any longer. She sighed and took a deep breath, and opened the doors. Nervous as all heck, but not wanting to prolong it, she stopped short and yelled, "Hey...Isis...get your butt in gear, or I'll tell him that you sent me in your place!" she joked, and stepped into the corridor to wait so they could all go together.

At Melissa's teasing, Isis started stuttering again. "W-well, I mean, we d-don't really need alone time," she said. "And I'm... a-allergic to m-mistletoe." She tried to smooth her face out into blankness as she applied her make-up. She didn't want Melissa to think that she was trying to take away her friend and it was scary to think of being alone with Acama at the ball.
Or was it? Isis wasn't sure. She'd never been on a date before. Ever. Unless watching the sunset with Autumn's best friend Jared counted as a date. But... it wasn't a date. She and Acama were going with other people. Even if they were going to go their separate ways. Shrugging her shoulders, Isis finished putting on her make-up and sprayed on some perfume. If worse came to worse she'd just try to find Autumn and Jared, since her sister told her they'd be going together.
Melissa had called out to her to hurry, so, giving her hair one last tousle (the potion made her hair fall perfectly), she gathered her things and walked to the door. "Ok, ok, I'm coming," she said. "Hey, Autumn, you ready?" One last smoothing of her dress, and Isis was ready to go, and she walked out of the bathroom.
