A beeping sound reached Isis's consciousness as she sat at the dining table, staring into space. The microwave had finished popping the popcorn and it was now sitting on the rotating plate, waiting for Isis to fetch it. She got up and poured out the popcorn into a glass bowl and went back to the dining room. Why the holy turd was she still so nervous? She'd gone out with Acama before and this wasn't really any different... was it? Ok, fine when they went out, they went out, and now he was going to come over to watch a movie on dvd with her. And they'd be mostly alone since her Uncle Ray had gone out to work and wouldn't be home until dinner, her parents were out of town visiting relatives and she didn't know where Autumn was.
Maybe it's because I agreed to watch a scary movie, Isis thought, bringing the bowl over to the living room together with a couple of cans of soda and some chips. She wasn't entirely sure that was the reason, though Japanese horror movies made her skin crawl. She just wasn't brave about them at all. Perhaps she was too entirely creeped out by the way they looked. Well, it was too late now. Sighing, she sat down at one end of the couch and called for pizza, while waiting for Acama to arrive. At least she wouldn't be alone.[there. you can pick whatever movie we're going to "watch". ]

Okay, so maybe cologne wasn't such a good idea after all. Acama was two minutes away from Isis's house when he realized that she could probably smell him coming. He wasn't particularly fond of cologne, at least not that kind he practically bathed in an hour before, but his grandfather mentioned something about women not being able to resist a man who smelled great, so he thought he'd give it a shot. Big freaking mistake. As soon as he got home, the bottle of Old Spice was going in the trash.
Aside from the fact that he now smelled like his grandfather, Acama was feeling pretty confident about the date. He managed to get through the first one without making an ass out of himself, so the second one shouldn't be any different. After all, they were going to watch a movie, but not just ANY movie...the sickest movie EVER.
When he finally reached what he hoped was her front door, he rang the doorbell once and waited. He wasn't one of those impatient people that ring the bell ten million times until someone came to the door, even if he was excited. When she did answer the door, he stepped inside to give her a quick kiss on the cheek, and handed her the movie.
"We're watching 'Audition'! It's not really that scary, just a little twisted, so don't even think about chickening out!"

The doorbell rang and Isis practically flew to the door. "Hi," she said to Acama when she opened it. Surprisingly, she didn't feel as nervous as before. She felt rather calm as she stepped aside so he could come in. Perhaps it was the anticipation of the moment that had had her stomach in knots. She wrinkled her nose a little when he leaned in to kiss her. "Are you wearing cologne? I mean, not that you don't smell great, but you kind of smell like my uncle."
She told him to sit down as she turned on the player and looked at the dvd case. "Director Takashi Miike fashions an explosive drama in Audition. Shigeharu Aoyama has lived as a widower for too long and decides it's time to marry again. But how will he find a wife? When a friend suggests he hold a fake audition to pick the right woman, he takes him up on it -- only to realize that his choice may be a better actress than he bargained for," Isis read aloud from the back of the case. "Sounds thrilling. Are you sure I'm going to be able to handle this one?" She set up the player and inserted the disc, then sat down on the couch next to Acama and used the remote control to play the movie. "If I end up having nightmares about this, Acama Arroyo, I swear I'm not going to talk to you ever again," she threatened playfully. Out of habit from watching movies with her uncle, Isis put her head on Acama's shoulder and tucked her feet under her. It was the best way to watch a movie, any kind of movie, in her opinion, so she didn't apologize or feel embarrassed. In fact, she felt quite comfortable and... right.

Are you wearing cologne? I mean, not that you don't smell great, but you kind of smell like my uncle. He didn't know anything about her uncle, so he wasn't sure if smelling like him was a good thing or not, so he simply shrugged and took a seat. All thoughts of smelly uncles were cast aside as she began reading the movie synopsis from the back of the case. He never went by those things, they always made the films sound so boring.
"Quit being such a chicken, it's just a movie. Besides, I'm right here and if it gets to be too much, we could always pop in Bambi. Unless you're afraid of deer..." he teased, and reached over to grab the bowl of popcorn. If she were anyone else, he'd call her a moron for being afraid of a movie, but she'd probably throw him out. The whole thing was kind of cute anyway.
Acama felt himself tense up a bit as she rested her head on his shoulder. He swung an arm around her and sat back, forcing himself to not get all worked up over nothing. He helped himself to some popcorn before passing her the bowl and after taking a deep breath, turned his attention to the television.

"Oh, funny," Isis said, making a face at Acama and poking him in the side. She failed to mention that she cried when Bambi's mother died, knowing that he would just tease her some more about it anyway. She took the popcorn and held it in her lap. She snuggled in a bit closer when Acama put his arm around her and fell silent as the movie began. Only, Isis wasn't looking at the TV screen. Instead, she was staring at Acama, whose eyes were glued to the screen, and she smiled in slight disbelief that she was actually with a boy, who had his arm around her.

Since he'd already seen the movie two or three times, Acama was finding it difficult to keep focused. It had always been that way with him. Unless the movie was a all-time favorite, he couldn't sit through it more than a couple of times. He would have brought something else for them to watch, but the rest of his dvds were at Melissa's house and she and her grandfather were out for the day. He probably wouldn't have been able to pay attention for too long anyway, despite whatever movie was playing.
Mo would roll over in his grave, or where ever the hell the guy was, if he knew Acama was sitting on a girl's couch in her house, on an actual date. Hell, he almost couldn't believe it himself. Even more unbelievable was the fact that he felt so at ease.
The cologne was definitely a crummy idea, but not eating dinner was the single worst idea EVER. He was way too anxious at the time to sit through a meal, so skipped dinner thinking he'd fine be until he made it back home. It was pretty stupid of him to do considering the only thing he ate that day was a bowl of cereal for breakfast. As hungry as he was, he didn't want Isis to think he was a greedy animal, so he refrained from devouring the chips, only taking a few. Try as he might though, he couldn't keep his stomach from growing, loudly.
"Uh, oops..."

Isis laughed, hearing Acama's stomach growl. "No worries," she said, still inclined to laugh a little. "I ordered pizza, but if you can't wait, I can make you a sandwich or something." She knew Acama loved to eat, and she was surprised that he wasn't gobbling up the popcorn, anyway. She paused the movie (which she was totally not getting at the moment, since she'd been watching him) and walked over to the kitchen.
"What do you want on your sandwich?" she called out, poking her head into the refrigerator. "We have ham, baloney, mustard, cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, peanut butter, jelly... You name it, we probably have it." It didn't bother her that she was going to make it for him, instead of making him make it himself. That would come later.

He was totally embarrassed but too hungry at this point to decline her offer, so he followed her to the kitchen. "Just so you know, I didn't have any dinner today. So don't think I'm some beast that has to eat every three hours or else I feel faint." he laughed, but in reality, he really was like that not too long ago. He was short and a little chubby when he first started at the school, but since then has grown a lot and everything evened out, just like his grandfather said it would.
"Umm...ham and cheese is fine, with mayo...not mustard. I hate mustard." Mustard was disgusting no matter what anyone said. "You like bologna? I never did like it, or mustard." He stood in silence for a moment and watched her prepare the sandwich, which he was about to snatch right out of her hand and swallow whole. When she was done and handed him the plate, he immediately took a big bite, but not too big, and smiled.
"Thanks, you're the best! We're definitely getting married..." He took another bite and without giving it much thought, wrapped his free arm around her waist. "Next time, we'll watch whatever you want. Even if it's Bambi." He had never actually seen Bambi, mostly because it was the girliest crap ever, but he had food in his stomach and life was good. He would probably agree to do just about anything.
"I'd ask you for something to drink, but I'm afraid you'll just spill it all over me..." he snickered.

"Defensive much?" Isis commented, laughing as she pulled out the ham and cheese and began to make Acama's sandwich. "Good call on the mustard. Personally, I only eat it on a hotdog and not anything else," she went on, handing him the plate. "And I don't eat the bologna, that's my uncle's."
"I don't know if I can marry someone who likes mayo on their ham and cheese." She poked him in the side again, grinning mischieviously when he put his arm around her waist. She decided to ignore the Bambi comment, but shoved him playfully when he teased about the drinks. "Go get it yourself, then!" she snapped, though it was ruined by the humongous smile on her face. They were, as her uncle would say, "exchanging playful banter", which was a fancy way of saying teasing each other. In Isis's opinion, it was a step up from the awkward exchanges they usually had.

"Oh my God, so rude. I'm your guest, you're supposed to be massaging my feet and feeding me grapes, not telling me to get my own drinks." Acama whined, as he grabbed a cup and pulled open the refrigerator. He wasn't too picky when it came to drinks, so he grabbed the first thing he saw, which happened to be some kind of fruit punch, and poured himself a glass.
"Where is your uncle anyway? He's okay with leaving you home alone with your boyfriend?" He was only asking because he told his grandfather he would be with Morse, which was a complete lie of course. Had he known Acama was going to be with a girl, the old man would have offered to drive him and insist on meeting Isis. That of course, was totally embarrassing, so he had no choice but to lie.

Sticking her tongue out at Acama, Isis grabbed a soda from the fridge before he closed it. "He's working and he sort of doesn't really know you were coming over," she admitted, sheepishly. Not that Uncle Ray really minded much about boys; she just hadn't gotten around to telling him that she had a boyfriend. Her parents didn't know, either. So far the only family member that knew about her and Acama was Autumn.
"Anyway, he won't be back until later tonight, so, it's ok." I think, she added silently. She wasn't quite sure how her uncle would react, though a freak out was one of the possibilities.

Ha, so Isis was as much of a big fat liar as he was. Well, she didn't exactly lie to her uncle. She simply withheld information, which according to adults was lying, but they weren't adults....so it was all good in his book.
"Well if I was your uncle, I wouldn't leave you alone with a guy. Cause you know, us guys are animals and whatnot. I could easily go insane right now and try to kiss you, or force you to feed me the rest of my sandwich." he replied, taking the last bite. "Oops, no more sandwich left to feed me. I guess that only leaves me that one other option." He was teasing of course, and downed the rest of of his juice before washing the cup and plate, and headed back to the couch to try and finish the rest of the movie.

"Oops, no more sandwich left to feed me. I guess that only leaves me that one other option."
Isis blinked. Acama had said it so fast, she was still processing it as she followed him back into the living room to watch the rest of the movie. She sat beside him, facing the tv but not really watching, (which, she registered dimly, would probably piss him off or give him something else to tease her about).
"I could easily go insane right now and try to kiss you..."
"So, why don't you?" she found herself saying out loud. She sat up and looked him right in the eye. "Kiss me. Right now. Before I chicken out and push you out the door."

There was no point in trying to watch the rest of the movie at that point. He had already seen it and Isis seemed...distracted. He didn't know if it was because she had something on her mind or because she just wasn't into into. It didn't matter to him either way. Now that he was fed and fully energized, all he wanted to do was relax, and wait for the pizza she ordered. He reached over for the remote and paused the movie. Acama was just about to ask what kind of toppings were going to be on the pizza, if any, but was interrupted.
"You want me to what?" He had to have heard her wrong. "But I was only kidd---do you...are you sure?" She was just messing around with him. She had to be.

Isis nodded, nervous and excited at the same time. "Now, before I change my mind," she breathed, gripping Acama's arm like a vice. Then some common sense leaked out and she hastily whispered, "Unlessyoudon'treallywantto." She sat there and waited for something to happen, but it seemed like the kiss was never going to come.
She let go of Acama and let her hands fall to her lap, her head down, embarrassed beyond belief.
