Rowan skulked around the corridors. She’s spent years as an operative and then a year moping around like some sick puppy who was lost. It really sucked and was nothing like the type of person she was supposed to be. Her life had taken so many twists and turns that it was painfully obvious that she didn’t quite fit in the way she used to at Hogwarts. She was popular in her day, with fellows students and staff members. Her hair had always been impeccable and she was a stunning quidditch player. After years of learning what Holly could teach her, Rowan had taken over as seeker and had won her team the cup. Oh, those were the years. She’d definitely made her enemies, mostly among small first years and a few jealous staff members, but she’d trade anything to go back to that time.
Her once soft and slender body was now sinuous and taut, years of training had taken away that soft glow she carried with her and now just left her with an animal like appearance – a hungry lioness searching for her next meal. Perhaps it was because she didn’t dine on cookies the way she used to or perhaps it was because working for her family wasn’t the glamorous job it appeared.
Quickly, she ticked the pear and swooped into the kitchens, trying to avoid any staff members that might ask her questions in the hall. She nearly lost her step, barely avoiding a collision with a rack of lamb and a small house elf that carried it. “…sorry…” she mumbled and grabbed a stool. Another elf brought her a plate and Rowan began slowly chewing the food. She had avoided the Great Hall for some time now and a few elves had been kind enough to keep her a plate at meals in the kitchens. A sound startled her and she dropped her fork. She wasn’t sure if it was her stomach or someone else sneaking in.

Shawn found himself in the kitchens much less often than he used to as of late, probably because he had stopped feeding his cats cookies which greatly decreased his need for them. Of course he still ate them himself, which would explain why he was currently skipping down to the creepy dark dungeons in search of that familiar portrait. He hummed to himself as he walked, taking his time since he was already at a loss for things to keep him occupied for the remainder of the summer. His need for cookies couldn't have come at a better time, for he needed to make some to take to his first lesson anyways.
When he reached the portrait he had been looking for he found and pear and tickled it a bit, letting out a small giggle as the pear did the same and swung open to let him in. Not wanting to disturb any of the house elves, he stepped in as quietly as he could. Apparently his view of quiet wasn't as quiet as it should be, since something seemed to have heard him as soon as he entered the kitchen. He cringed lightly as he heard the fork drop, ready to apologize profusely to whoever or whatever he might have bothered. Maybe he didn't need cookies so bad.. you know, he did have a kitchen back in his apartment, who cares if it wasn't as well-equipped as this one.
Turning his head in the direction that the noise had come from, he spotted a familiar face. Well, familiar being that he'd seen her around and knew who she was, he wasn't sure if he'd ever actually met her. "Hi, sorry if I scared you," he said, smiling apologetically and staying planted in his spot near the exit. It seemed that she was eating, and seeing as she could be eating in the Great Hall, perhaps she had come in here to be alone. He thought about turning to leave right then, but then decided that if someone did that to him he'd be mildly upset. He could at least make sure she wanted him gone. "Am I bothering you? I can come back later, if you'd like."

She smiled briefly as she saw the cause of the noise, slowly and trying to casually pull her hand away from her robes and her wand. Harmless.... It was that strange boy. Well, he was really a man now. But Rowan remembered him from her days as a student here. It was the only boy she'd known about who walked around wearing dresses. She'd never paid attention to him then because she was much more concerned about her own well-being...Stange how time seems to change things. She really wasn't worried about being the prettiest or the one with the best hair.
"Oh, no you're fine. Really. Besides it's not like you're not welcome here." She gestured to the house elf who was trying to cover the area in front of Shawn with piles of cookies and then took to building a small wall of flour bags beside him. It was....really really odd. "I just try to eat here to avoid any scrutinizing."
Who would be scrutinizing was hard to tell. There was El, who seemed to like her only on certain occasions, Abba who had a similar sort of story, Arri who liked her and hated her depending on her proximity and amount of clothing....There might not have been any, but Rowan hadn't been in the Great Hall since she got back. She cocked her head to one side as the same elf was now hauling over a sack of sugar. What the hell was going on?
"So, um...what's going on? That elf seems to be building you a fort of cookie-ness. Oh, I'm Rowan. Sorry for the not introducing earlier. You startled me, that's all."

Shawn smiled at her as she told him that he could stay, raising his eyebrows as his attention was drawn to the house elf and the ever growing pile of cookies. I no time it had began dragging flour over, however he didn't really need to make cookies if he already had a pile in front of him, did he? Oh, who was he kidding, he made cookies just to kill time. Shaking his head, he turned his attention back to Rowan as she explained why she was eating in here all alone. "Oh, I see," he said, nodding his head. "Doesn't get get kind of, um, boring?" he asked, though now that he thought about it he never ate in the Great Hall either.. but that's because he never ate at normal meal times. Plus being around that many students made him feel old.
As Shawn's pile of cookie ingredients continued to grow, he began to worry that the poor little elf would hurt himself trying to drag it all over. He giggled as Rowan questioned the elfs motives, shrugging his shoulders before responding. "Well, either house elves can read minds, or I've been here to make cookies one too many times. Unfortunately, it's probably the latter." He sighed, picking one of the cookies up off of the floor. "I'm Shawn, it is nice to actually meet you finally. Er, not creepily of course.. I just remember seeing you around a lot." He nodded his head, thinking back and realizing that he hadn't seen her much lately. "Not recently though. What have you been up to, if you don't mind me asking? Unless you've been here and I've just been living under a rock, which is completely possible.."
He grabbed a few more cookies and took a bite of the one he was already holding, stepping over a bag of flour and making his way over to where Rowan was sitting. "Cookie?" he offered, holding out one of the ones he hadn't yet taken a bite out of. They might as well eat these cookies, since it seemed that he was going be making many many more later. Who knows, maybe they were even giving him back his own cookies left over from one of his last cooking sprees.

((So sorry that I took so long to respond. My weekend was busy and I've been playing catch-up at work for days since my project was canceled))
He hit some very good points directly on the head and Rowan typically wasn't one to let him see that. Her days of wearing her emotions on her sleeve were usually long behind her, but Rowan wasn't very used to actually dealing with people so her astonishment was evident on her face. "Yep, definitely does get boring but I've had worse jobs where I never got to eat with anyone"
Those jobs were the reason why some of the house elves refused to look at her or help her at all. They sensed her remorse, that there was something off about her. And when she was around those happy and enjoyable, she too slowly became happier as if her shell cracked a little. She didn't enjoy her self coming back into her own, but it happened then and again. Rowan took another bite, slowly chewing a potato, eyeing the cookie Shawn offered her. "I used to see you around all of the time too, but we never talked before for some reason."
Without thinking, she dropped her fork and grabbed the cookie eating it quickly. God, it tasted so much better than she had remembered! "How often do you come here to bake? God, this is good. You're a cookie genius!"

((This is late as well, so don't sweat it.))
Shawn raised his eyebrow as she mentioned that she had jobs where she didn't get to eat with anyone. He wondered if that meant that she didn't get to see many people either, which lead him to wondering what kind of jobs she might have been doing. Though he was curious, he decided against voicing his questions. She didn't know him very well at all, perhaps she wouldn't feel comfortable answering them. Instead, he simply offered her company. "Well if you ever get tired of eating by yourself, I'm around here most of the time. And if you want to eat in the Great Hall I don't think you should let other people stop you from doing that, buut I understand why you wouldn't want to eat there." He gave her a warm smile.
As she continued to eat, Shawn looked away. He didn't think she'd appreciate him watching her eat, perhaps that was even another reason she avoided the Great Hall. He noticed that some of the house elves were avoiding them, something he'd never seen happen before. They were probably just extra busy, right? It wasn't like they needed an entire kitchen of elves to help them anyways, in fact sometimes he'd rather them not help at all, since they did so much for the school already.
He turned his attention back to Rowan as she spoke to him, his reply was lost in surprise when she grabbed the cookie out of his hand and shoved it in her mouth. That was something he never expected to see her do, but he let out a giggle despite his confusion. "Oh, I come here once a week sometimes, depending on how busy I am. Other times every couple of weeks.. is it really that good? Perhaps you've just been cookie deprived for too long?" he said with a small grin. His cookies were good, no doubt, but definitely not the best.
