Devin skipped into kitchen happily. Today? Was the first day of S.P.E.W club's beginning. Today was the first meeting and she had already gotten to known some of the elves, but other students hadn't gotten to know them yet. Today was mostly a get together and learn about each other, get the ball rolling. Of course she had spent all day preparing the food and snacks for the meeting and buying butterbeer from Three Broomsticks for drinks.
Of course, she wouldn't want the Elves to cook for the occasion, no this would be their enjoyment time where they could meet others as well. And of course the students, staff or professors. Laying out the cookies, milk, butterbeer, cupcakes and all sorts of other treats which were most likely bad for your health, but they were young. Although she did take in mind the health conscious people so on another table were more healthy treats such as baby carrots, grapes and ect. Stepping back she glanced over everything, not much decorations, but perhaps overtime she would think of things to add.
Letting out a nervous breath she shifted from one foot to another twiddling her thumbs as she waited for anyone to show up after spreading the word.
( Anyone is welcomed, but if you do attend, I do have one request. Please sign up at this term's S.P.E.W sign up thread here. )

Kapri walked in somberly into the meeting. She didn't know if this was suppose to be a happy thing, or a depressing thing so she wore half a black sweater with tie die on the other side. She had heard the word from an older student and had assumed it was a serious obligation, but you could never be too sure...
She pushed her thick black-rimmed glasses up to the top of her nose and took a few steps within the Kitchens, setting her four books on one of the tables and joining another student who was looking expectantly around the room. Kapri looked around and up at the wall awkwardly, slightly afraid to address the older student unless she was being spoken to.
"Err.. hi" she said uneasily, staring at the wall and not the other girl. Please don't yell at me... Please don't yell at me she thought, biting down on the inside of her lip.

Spotting some of the first members to arrive she bounced slightly in excitement as she smiled. The first thing she did? She went over and hugged the first year Gryffindor for quite a while before backing up. She didn't want to scare her after all, but support was definitely great. Anything for the cause really, "Hey!" she said. Alright, so a Cup of Joe before the meeting probably wasn't the best, but it did get her excited. Just perhaps a bit too excited. "Um, well snacks and drinks are all around," she laughed faintly. "Went a bit overboard with everything I suppose..." she trailed off glancing around before back to her. She did look a bit uncomfortable, but hopefully she could fix that.
Backing up she grabbed the sweet nectar of Butterbeer and popped the cap tossing it into the trash. Taking a small drink she let out a sigh of relief, before gasping. "Oh! I hadn't introduced myself. I'm Devin. Hufflepuff. Fourth Year," she giggled holding out her hand for her to shake it. Of course her words came out quick and fast, so there was always the chance she probably didn't hear her exact words, but oh well. "What's your name?" she asked curiously. She knew a few people signed up, but unfortunately there wasn't any pictures next to names.

Miles walked to the SPEW meeting, wondering if what he was wearing was a little much. He knew that they were trying to protect house elves from further enslavement, but he wasn't sure how peppy they were really supposed to be. When he reached the door, he gathered himself and walked into the Kitchens, where the poster had said the meeting would be held. He noticed that two girls were talking at the far end. "Not too big a crowd" he whispered. He had never been in the kitchens before, and the room was actually quite breathtaking. It was very large, covered with pots and pans; portraits even scattered the walls in a few areas. It was a magnificent sight to see. The house elves, however worked away. As he began to walk towards the two girls, one house elf looked his way and tilted his head as if confused. Another walked up to him, quite uncomfortably, and asked him if he'd like a cup of tea. "Oh I can get it myself, thanks" he smiled. Nevertheless, the house elf insisted, and so he simply declined.
As he made his way past the elves and to the two girls, the ears on his house elf costume flopped a little awkwardly and he began to worry that he hadn't dressed right for the occasion. No one else was dressed like a house elf! Oh well, it was too late to go back to the dorms now, as the meeting was going to start soon. So, he crept up to the conversation and stood slightly awkwardly, not wanting to interrupt. The scene was quite strange. A 13 year old boy in a house elf costume stood to the side of a conversation between two people were costume-less. It was like something from some creepy horror movie. Nevertheless, he needed to use this costume eventually, and he couldn't think of a better time than now!

Turning her head as she heard another person enter she grinned before freezing slightly. A house elf costume? Her eyes widened as she tried her best not to laugh. It was indeed a sweet gesture as she bit her lip, bu hey! It had been her second Gryffindor to come. So she was happy about that. Smiling she tugged him into the threesome group as she gave him a hug fixing his ears before pulling away. "Welcome! It's er.. kinda small right now, but will definitely get better and bigger once the other members come." She nodded. This she was sure of since those who had agreed said they would be active. At least she could hope.
"Did you make your costume?" she asked bouncing slightly on the heel of her feet she kept her hands behind her back. "Oh! Butterbeer and all sorts of treats and stuff are around.. if you're feel hungry. I spent all day working on them," she added laughing faintly. "So.. yeah. I know the elves were a bit defensive about actually letting me, but it worked out well." Devin said thoughtfully shrugging her shoulders as she leaned against the wall after snagging a cauldron cake taking a big bite. "Mmm.. plus.. store bought goods are always a bit better," she gasped realizing her mistake as an elf shot her a dirty look. "Not that elf cooking is bad.." she sighed before glancing to the two of them. "So.. I thought it'd be cute to possibly.. not adopt an elf, since that seems somewhat.. unfair, but bond with a certain elf and learn more about them," she nodded smiling.

She was suddenly thrust into a hug and she patted the girl on the back, not knowing what to do or say but blush furiously. She listened to the blob of syllables that seemed to flow like a stream from her mouth. She caught the basics for the most part. "I'm Kapri, Devin." she said, as calm as she could and took the girl's hand. It was good to get to know people. It was certainly a relief to exchange something in common with someone else. She hadn't entirely done that this year yet. She did have a lot of time though. The year was still young.
Suddenly her attention was diverted by another boy that walked in. He had decked himself out in a house elf costume and looked awkward among the girls. She had never seen this boy around before. She nodded to him.
"Aren't you hot in that?" she asked. It was a Kitchen, afterall. Generally a place for making food items.. over a stove. "I'm all about bonding with an elf. I love house elves. They deserve the best treatment" she said with one quick affirmative nod.
"So who else are we waiting for?" she asked quietly, feeling like she spoke too much for one conversation.

In celebration of SPEW, Troy decided to be sensitive Sammy and wear nothing but a rather large pillowcase. It covered what needed to be covered (unfortunate, yes, but he was in the presence of young eyes...), but it also showed some respect toward the house-elves. RESPECT, WHAAAAAAAT? Yes, my friends... TROY KNEW HOW TO BE RESPECTFUL!! However, when he saw the food, he lost all sense of control. HE WAS LIKE A BEAR, RAWR!!!! The table closest to him was the one covered in carrots and healthy crap... this threw him off a bit. But then his spidey senses kicked in and he saw the COOKIES!!!!!!!!! Like a boss beast, Troy grabbed several of them and shoved them in his mouth. Mmmmmmmmmm, delicious. "So, what's goin' on?" asked Troy, spitting crumbs everywhere.

Life recently? Not so great for Kit.
So instead of moping around and holing herself up in her dorm room, she had made the decision to just throw herself into anything and everything Hogwarts had to offer. Heck, maybe she could even make some new friends (that was doubtful- she was already a seventh year, so she was pretty much a lost cause in the friendship department by now... but hey, it couldn't hurt to hope).
And besides... Kit liked house elves. A lot. And she did believe pretty strongly that the rights of house elves had to change and that emancipation was a necessary future for them, soooo... whatevs. It was a good place to expend some of her rage and energy, anyway.
So Kit tentatively entered the kitchen and saw, to her delight, that there was FOOD laying out. And DRINK. Even BUTTERBEER. For a brief moment, Kit sincerely wished there was firewhiskey for reasons that involved forgetting huge chunks of her life, buuut then she figured getting trashed in the company of younger students and some staff in a somewhat professional meeting about house elves was probably not a good idea. She grabbed some cookies and butterbeer with the intent of eating her feelings instead, taking a huge bite and a big gulp. Ahh. For all her depression, the warming sensation of butterbeer couldn't be denied its pleasantness.
Kit looked around a little, feeling like an awkward weirdo- then again, there was a guy in a house elf costume and Troy in a pillowcase. Maybe she didn't have to worry so much after all. Nevertheless, she offered pained smiles at anyone who happened to glance her way. Damn, she really needed to work on her social ineptitude.

"KIIIIIIT!!!" Troy ran and hugged the Gryffindor, ignoring the fact that it was probably pretty awkward because he wasn't wearing underwear. Oh well. She probably liked it. Granted, he didn't remember when they had spoken... but they must be friends because it was in his biography that they were. AND BIOGRAPHIES ALWAYS SPOKE TRUTH!! Pulling away, he kept one arm draped around his shoulders. "Lookin' pretty down, love. Here, HAVE A COOKIE!!" With a grin that looked somewhat like this, , Troy put a chocolate chip cookie in the palm of her hand.

"I brought snacks and drinks" Abba Jr. yelled happily as he arrived for the meeting. "Oh well, but I did sneak a bottle from my dads cabinet" This time he wasn't as happy seeing someone had already brought food and beverages. And my the looks of it, it was much better than the stuff he had brought. Oh well, his intentione were good.
"My sister the brat will be along sometime. She's still pissed and pouting over Reno's class. What's up everybody, what did I miss?" Tossing his snack bag on the counter and started to talk and mingle with the others.

"KIIIIIIT!!!"Someone here knew her?! Lo and behold, there was Troy, barreling over to her, and very soon afterwards hugging the daylights out of her. Kit had stiffened a little in surprise at the enthusiastic greeting but after a moment relaxed into the embrace. In fact, she found herself hugging him back pretty hard (maybe too hard??... that's what she said). The Gryffindor actually did like this ... but it had less to do with his lack of underwear (which she was conveniently not noticing) and more to do with the fact that she'd kinda sorta been in dire need for some kind of comforting human contact for quite some time now. She'd never been super super close with Troy as far as she knew to warrant such a ginormous hug, but whatevs. She would totally take this right now. It was really, really nice. "Lookin' pretty down, love. Here, HAVE A COOKIE!!" Kit wanted to tell him he didn't even know the half of it, but this was S.P.E.W., not therapy, so she just smiled meekly at him and accepted the proffered cookie. "Thanks," she said, immediately shoving it into her mouth. NOM NOM NOM. She would eat cookies until she died if it could fill even the tiniest of holes in her ridiculously holey heart right now ;___;. Maybe S.P.E.W. wasn't therapy, but with its refreshments, it could certainly offer some food therapy. Feeling a little less awkward thanks to Troy's attention, Kit made an effort to actually smile and wave at some people. BABY STEPS, BABY STEPS.

Out of the corner of his rather large eye (because he was making a face except more excited... like a + ;D), Troy saw someone enter that looked mysteriously like someone else he knew only this someone was signficantly smaller than the other someone, who he thought was pretty tall but he could be wrong. Hmmm.... he was gonna keep his eyes on him... Troy noticed that Kit was smiling a little more than before, so he considered OPERATION COOKIE FOR KIT (hehehehh...) a grand success! He gave her a friendly snog on the cheek, then strut his little behind over to get some more snacks. This time, he went for a cupcake with greedy fingers. Cupcakes were always rather a mess for him, and this time was no different. After the first bite, his face was smoehow covered in frosting but he didn't notice and even if he did, he wouldn't care. Savin' it for later.

Devin certainly made a point of hugging and getting to know everybody. Knowing that any support was definitely welcomed and needed, well she was happily for each individual person that could make it. "Kapri! Well then welcome," she grinned shaking her hand. She nodded, "That's why I always try and get food and items myself when I'm not in the Great Hall. Even though they do sometimes get offended.." she frowned. "For some reason they enjoy cooking, but sometimes I wonder how they would act if we could cook for them or something.. if they just got a taste of a break they might enjoy it. Especially if we keep our common rooms clean and tidy," she nodded. Every little bit did indeed count. She made sure to tell this to everybody.
When she noticed another new member she smiled giving Kit a big hug as well. She was making quite a good habit of this as she hugged her tightly. "Welcome!" she said before backing off giving her some space to breathe and get food. Noticing Troy her eyes widened. "Well... it's good you covered up," she giggled giving him a hug as well before he went all rawr rawr bear. Glancing over as she heard another voice feeling much more excited about the activity that was going on. It was certainly increasing and with that her positive attitude. Although she was slightly worried, she knew Abba and Aggie in a room together were definitely trouble. That she learned long ago. Her eyes widened seeing the bottle, "Ohh no, that might not be a good idea.." Last thing she wanted was an orgy. No no, that would give bad progress. And well, lots of poor innocent elf eyes.
None the less she giggled bouncing over giving Abba Jr a big hug as well before stepping back nodding, "Ah.. Slytherins. Always a joy with.. well.. their stuff," she said awkwardly.
"Wellll, now that most people were here.. I was kinda thinking of making this somewhat of a get to know each other meeting.. some people we know already though," she added laughing softly glancing at Troy, one of the professors who also decided to come in theme costume. It almost made her wish she had come in some type of costume as well considering Troy wasn't the only one to show up in one. "There's others we can get to know as well," she nodded. "Alsoo I do want to point out that our next meeting willl be," she paused for drumroll. "A rally! I decided to take one of the suggestions from one of our students on the sign up list. Maybe a let our house elves free rally on the lawns?" She questioned glancing around to see what others thought of that idea. "I also like the idea that Troy and Miles so adorably thought of.. maybe doing it in some type of theme costume?" she paused, "Or maybe that wouldn't be a good idea.. might not be taken seriously.." she pouted.

Kit was even more surprised when, mid-butterbeer gulp, she found herself hugged again, by a girl this time who was apparently the President of S.P.E.W. Oh, wow. She'd gone from losing her best and arguably only friend to getting hugged by near-strangers and acquaintances. Oh well, she wasn't complaining—it had a way of making her feel a little better about her otherwise poor circumstances. She returned the hug and smiled kindly at the Hufflepuff girl, proceeding to engage in small talk before the girl—Devin—began addressing the group. Oh, wow. A rally! Man, this stuff was intense. Not that Kit minded. She imagined getting all crazy and scream-y, waving a sign in the air and pumping her fist, a bandana wrapped around her head in a way that made her look totally tough!!! (Can bandanas do that? ) It certainly seemed like a wonderful way to channel all her recent rage and sadness... take it out on the house elf abusers!! Scream and rally!! WOOO!! "That sounds awesome," Kit piped up, smiling as she refilled her butterbeer glass. Mmmm, warm nomminess. "I don't know if we should dress up in costumes for that, though, since people might think it was more of a joke and less of a protest... but maybe we can use that for another event? Like a themed benefit dance or something?" Look at her, being a productive member of society. Go Kit.

RALLY?!?!?! HELL YEAH! It was like the the CAF all over again... only for elves... YEAH! Troy jumped up at the mention of costumes, because he loved costumes, and he was all for them if they supported a wonderful message WHILE making you look stylish. "Yeah, costumes might make us look foolish... but they could also send a message of siriusness if done correctly." Troy plopped on the floor, careful to position himself so that nothing was showing to the innocent eyes all around him. "Like, if we wore minimal clothing... not only would we be attractive, but it would show that we don't need all of the materialistic things that house-elves don't have." HE WAS SO SMART. ;D
