Evelyn hopped off of the last step of the moving staircase, which had thankfully stayed put while she took her trip down it, and landed softly on the ground in the Entrance Hall. With a smile on her face she looked around, waving to the staff and students that walked passed her as she surveyed the area trying to decide which way to go next. The obvious choice was outside, where the weather was lovely for just a few more weeks before term began and fall was upon them. The girl had missed the castle though, so she was tempted to stay inside exploring all day. There had to be so many parts of this place that she had missed seeing her first year, probably plenty that she would never see before she graduated. Her dad had told her about the kitchens, where he apparently spent lots of time cooking or getting house elves to do the dirty work for him, but he wouldn't tell her where it was. He seemed to think it would be more fun for her to find it herself. She would save that for a day when her tummy wasn't full from a delicious breakfast in the Great Hall.
Her eyes fell on the door to her left, the door all new students went through to get sorted. She remembered that day like it was yesterday, it almost brought butterflies to her stomach just thinking of how nervous she had been. Now that she thought back on it there was no reason for her to be nervous, there was nothing scary about the sorting hat, but she'd been shaking in her boots all the same. It barely took the hat ten seconds to place her in Gryffindor, the house that she had been hoping and praying for ever since her dad had told her all about the four houses at Hogwarts. The hat must have known that there was no arguing with her, for it was very hard to sway a decision of hers no matter how much anyone tried to reason with her.
As she turned on her heel she was faced with the open doors of the Great Hall, still full of the not-so-early-birds eating a late breakfast. She, however, was not quite up for visiting there again yet. She watched a couple of Hufflepuffs exit the hall and head down to where she had previously deduced their common room must be, for they were always going down that way and there was nothing else interesting down there that she knew of. She wondered if anyone had ever succeeded in sneaking into another house's common room. The Gryffindor common room was great, but every once in a while she caught herself thinking about what the other common rooms must be like.
Realizing that she had been standing in the Entrance Hall doing nothing but spinning around for almost fifteen minutes now, Evie wrinkled her nose and tried to determine where she would go next. It really would be nice to have someone else to explore with, so she wouldn't have to make all of these hard decisions herself. The castle was just so big, it was overwhelming trying to figure out where to go when everywhere was an option. Heaving a great sigh she sat down on the bottom stair of the staircase and rested her head on her hand as she tried to think up a gameplan.
