Lunchtime at Hogwarts was usually spent in the Great Hall, however Evelyn wanted to take advantage of the nice weather and have her lunch out on the grounds. On her way outside she stopped at the Great Hall to make herself a sandwich and grab some snacks, wrapping everything up in some napkins. She carried her food outside carefully, leaning her back against the door in the entrance hall and pushing against it until it opened enough for her to slip out. It was rather difficult trying to open such a big door with no hands, but she and her lunch made it safely onto the outside stairs leading to the rest of the grounds.
Taking a big breath of fresh air, Evie sighed happily and surveyed the grounds to find a good place to sit. She set her sights on the lake, thinking that it would be nice to soak her feet in the water that was hopefully warm after the hot summer. In no time she was walking up to the banks of the lake, wrinkling her nose as she noticed it was a little muddy. She didn't mind the mud, but she didn't want to get her robes all dirty, so she pulled her robes off and hung them over the branch of the tree. Underneath her robes she wore a pair of shorts and a tank top, which was much more comfortable when she was sitting here in the hot sun anyway.
Evie sat down Indian-style at the edge of the lake and sat her lunch down in her lap. She carefully unwrapped her sandwich and picked up half, taking a bite as she looked around the lake at a few of the other students milling around. When she finished the first half her sandwich she picked up the other half, about to take a bite when she realized there was a spider crawling on it. While the girl wasn't exactly afraid of spiders, it was rather unnerving to be face to face with one when she was about to take a bite of food. She screamed and threw the sandwich away from her where it landed in the lake with a small splash.
With a small pout adorning her face, Evie turned to the rest of her food and picked up a shiny green apple. She made sure that it was bug-free before biting into it, happy with the loud crunch it made as she chewed. She didn't need the disappointment of a soft apple on top of all of this. While she enjoyed her apple she watched as her old sandwich floated on top of the lake and was shocked when a giant tentacle emerged from the water and snatched the sandwich under the surface. "Ahh!" she screeched, backing up away from the lake hastily and losing the rest of her lunch to the mud along the way. Perhaps this was why most people enjoyed their lunch inside, away from all of this madness.
"What was that?" she mumbled to herself, less concerned with her lunch than the strange creature, or part of a creature, that she had just seen. Squinting her eyes, she threw a few of the pretzels that were now too gross for her to eat into the water and watched it intently. Shortly after the same tentacle burst out of the lake and swept the pretzel away, sending her heart racing once again. And people swam in this lake? She could just imagine that thing grabbing some innocent first year and dragging them into the depths of the lake. Whatever that thing was. Scooping up the rest of her soiled food, Evie threw it into the lake in a few handfuls and continued to watch.

Aysel had been floating on the lake enjoying the summer before it ended for good. She hadn't seemed to notice the shrieks in the background, she assumed it was the background noise of the magical wilderness. With her eyes closed, she absently backstroked down the lake, enjoying all that hogwarts had to offer when something went splat and him her in the face. "AHHH IM BLIND IM BLIND!" she flailed her arms wildly trying to keep herself from sinking, her vision obscured by the soggy sandwich "IM--- cured" she gawked, watching the tentacle back up with.... food.
"HEY! FInders keepers! Where are your manners?!" she shouted at the tentacle and grabbed it with her hand just before the tentacle went under. Unfortunately the thing was too strong for it and started to take Aysel down "GET YOUR PAWJFIEOKF---"
Bloopp...
blooppp....
Little airbubbles surfaced the barren lake....

Evelyn had been watching the spot where she had dropped her pretzels so closely that she hadn't noticed the other girl swimming around the lake, that is until she heard the screams of distress. Tearing her eyes away from her lost lunch, Evelyn scanned the lake and saw the tentacle again, this time fighting with a little girl. Surprisingly enough the girl wasn't trying to get away though, in fact she was fighting back. Was this some kind of game students here played? Giant squid wrestling? Gosh, the whomping willow was bad enough.
As the girl was dragged under the water Evie jumped up, at a complete loss for what to do now. "Hey! You, you...thing! You let her go right now!" she shouted in her most adult-like voice she could muster in such a situation. When that didn't work, it seemed that the only thing she could do was jump in and get her herself. There certainly wouldn't be enough time for her to scurry off to find a real adult, the girl could be monster food by then. Oh, if only she had her dad's Ravenclaw brain, maybe she would be able to think of a spell to use.
Mustering up all the Gryffindor bravery she could, Evie took a deep breath and dove into the water in search of the poor unfortunate soul that was hopefully still save-able.

The squid was tough, but Aysel was tougher! She held on, tugging with all her might, her face had long turned blue, her cheeks puffed with her remaining breath. Get... off... my... pretzels she tugged at the bag of pretzels, the contents were probably long disintegrated, all but a puddle of soggy mush but this wasn't about food. No... This was about pride! I will defeat you she said with her eyes, the squid responded with the flip of his other tentacle THE NERVE! Aysel noticed somebody swimming down. Reinforcements? Atlast! She released one of her hands and waved the girl over, pointed at the tentacle and then made a fist, attempting to describe the situation without words. Come. Lets fight this.... was what she hoped to gesture... but it might also have come off like No air, tentacle is fighting me...

Evelyn could hear her heart beating extra fast as she swam deeper into the lake, searching for the girl or the giant monster that had taken her. When she spotted the girl, still thankfully intact and even conscious, Evelyn sped up her pace and saw that the girl seemed to have one hand on the bag of pretzels that she had just used to lure the creature out of the water. Didn't she know that she could get those right in the Great Hall?
As the girl tried to gesture something to her, Evie squinted her eyes and concentrated really hard on what she was trying to say. It was hard trying to communicate without being able to talk, but a first was of course the universal sign of a fight. Due to the fact that the girls eyes were full of determination rather than fear, Evie deduced that she was still not intending to give up those pretzels without a proper battle. Well hell, she was already down here, and she wouldn't be surprised if the crazy student stayed down here until she passed out trying to get those pretzels, so she decided she must stay and help.
But how? The girl had never even taken a care of magical creatures class, let alone experienced trying to fight with one. Another factor in the problem was that she would never want to hurt the poor thing, now that she saw that it wasn't actively trying to eat either of them. Just her pretzels. Suddenly she had an idea, remembering her father's favorite (and only) form of torture: tickle torture. Tempted to let out a giggle at the silliness of the act she was about to perform, Evie kicked her feet and swam closer to the tentacle, making sure the girl had a good grasp on the pretzel bag before running her fingers over the tentacle in a tickling motion. She hoped this would work...

.... Aysel stared at the girl in disbelief ... Why... didn't I think of that!? Tickle torture was the worst unforseeable torture ever imagined. The tentacle bagn to twitch and lose its firm grip on the bag of pretzels, but like Aysel, still holding on determined as ever to win. The squid too understood one thing... this was about pride, and winners never quit! her face had long past blue and was rearing on the color purple must--- act--- quickly!, she released one of her hands and wiggled her little fingers under its tentacle.
Aysel-2, Squid 1 Woohoo! two against one
She did this wildly, the squid appeared unable to take it, twitching left and right before finally losing its grip on the the bag, causing her to fall back a few feet. Woohoo! She wiggled the bag of pretzels in the squids face mockingly and laughed loudly "HAHAHAH LOOOOOS--GUK" the last remaining airbubbles flew out of her mouth, her eyes bulged and she gripped her throat. Oh no! No more air?!?!
Aysel kicked her feet wildly, desperate to reach the surface... almost---- bahhhh.
bllooopp blop....
Her vision turned to darkness.

Evie's lips curled into a smile as she saw that her plan was working, for the tentacle started jerking around though it still had a grip on the bag. As soon as Aysel got the message and helped her out it was a piece of cake, that squid had nothing on them. Quickly releasing the squid from her tickle torture, she gave the tentacle a grateful pat before following Aysel to the surface. Except then Aysel started slowing down, and even in the dark murky lake she could tell that the color of her face was off.
When Aysel stopped moving altogether Evie panicked a little, grabbing her under one of her arms and kicking her legs as she tried to get the both of them to the surface before she too ran out of air. She also made sure, lest the girl try this again as soon as she woke up, to secure the bag of pretzels so that the squid couldn't get them. It was lucky that Aysel was small, otherwise they'd both be squid food. Time seemed to be passing ten times slower than normal as she dragged the other girl, but in reality it was only minutes before they reached the surface and she was pulling Aysel out of the water.
"Time to wake up now," she said as she flopped the girl onto the ground, breathing heavily. "See, look, there's air here. Breathe!" She groaned and hit the girl on the chest, hoping that would rouse her. She didn't know CPR so hopefully she wouldn't need it. "Don't you dare die on me! I haven't even learned your name yet!"

She choked up water and saw an angel--- no.... it was just her soon-to-be homegirl ;D Close enough. Ayself gasped for her breath and took in huge breaths of air to make up for her temporary lost. "Did---we---- win?" she asked between gasps of air, she looked over at the girl. She saw the back of pretzels glimmer in the sun, and her eyes sparkled. "I KNEW IT!!!" She jumped up and grabbed the bag, tipping it into her mouth. The soggy water logged pretzels slid into her mouth. It tasted slimey.. and cold...
"mmm..." Still.... tasted good, "Is this what success tastes like?" she asked her savior. "oh! Im Aysel by the way!" she nodded and offered the bag to her "Do you want some?" she asked, wiggling the bag at her.

"She lives!" Evelyn gasped as the girl spewed out some water and proceeded to take some nice big breaths. She could have hugged her, if only for not letting her death weigh on her soul for the rest of her life. Hearing the first words that the girl spoke upon awakening, Evie couldn't do anything but laugh. She held up the soggy bag of pretzels and was about to give her the good news when she figured it out for herself and snatched the bag away from her.
As she watched Aysel eat the pretzels her face took on a slightly disgusted look and her eyes widened, never having expected her to eat the wretched things. "I hope success would taste a bit better than that," she replied with a grin. "Oh, Aysel? Pretty name! It's nice to meet you, I'm Evie." Her eyes fell to the bag that was being waved in front of her and she shook her head, trying to adorn a grateful smile. "Thanks, but I'm alright. You enjoy them."

... how else should success taste like if not like a wet salty napkin? After she finished off the rest she tossed the bag to the side and gave a loud hearty belch. Dee-liiii--cioouus. "Evie hrmm? Good-- I now appoint you as my homegirl" she nodded sternly at her and started to squish the water out of her hair. She was begining to feel like she weighed fifty billion tons with her being drenched and all. It hadn't dawned on her what she had just blurted until a few seconds had passed "OHOH! MY FIRST HOME GIRL" she squeed "You're like my Robin!!! Cute name and fierce tickle powers and all" and let go of her drenched hair and clapped to herself, she reached forward and gave Evie a little snuggle. Ahhhh What other demons could they tackle? The forbidden forest? The moving tree? She squeezed Evie tighter. Woop! "First things first though... we need cookies" she nodded sternly... Yupp. How could they plot without natures sustenance?

Homegirl? That was a good thing, right? Evie took it to mean that they were friends, which meant...she had a friend! Who would have thought that friendship would come out of fighting a giant squid and almost dying? She smiled happily and tried to dry herself off a bit, letting out a scared squeak as the girl suddenly shouted excitedly. Evie giggled at the fact that her super power was tickling, though it was quite fitting for her. As Aysel snuggled her she smiled and gave her a hug, wrinkling her nose as she mentioned needing cookies. She hadn't brought any of those out here with her, she wondered now why she hadn't. Cookies were only the best food ever. "I agree, but where do we get cookies?" she asked, wondering if the Great Hall was still serving lunch. If only her dad had told her how to get to the kitchens...
