Ian looked both ways and then peeked over his left shoulder, trying to make sure that no one was watching. He hadn't yet been into the Forbidden Forest and he wasn't sure whether he would get into major trouble if he was seen sneaking his way in. He'd heard of students going into the forest all the time, although very few of them had the reason that he had for it. He was a vampire. He'd been born into the condition, as both of his parents were bitten at a young age. When it seemed that the coast was clear, he tucked his head and rushed in through the brush. As he ran deeper into the forest, he heard the cracking of branches and the rustling of leaves. He knew for a fact that he wasn't alone. After all, the forest was forbidden for a reason.
After a few minutes, he reached a clearing and decided that he had gone far enough so as not to be noticed. Just to be sure, though, he spun in a cautious circle, looking in each direction. "This place is deserted" he said, noticing that he hadn't seen a single creature since he had entered the forest. He could feel eyes on him though. A tingling feeling crept up his back and his neck, and he felt like he couldn't keep his back turned. He was looking for anything, anything at all to feed his hunger. He hadn't had anything since he had come to Hogwarts and over the past few days he had felt himself growing a little weak. He was only a first year, and every day he wondered why he had to deal with this condition at such a young age. But it was normal to him, and he had never know anything different.
He had never had to go to such lengths to feed, though, because his parents had simply kept blood around the house. He had very rarely had to hunt or find blood on his own. He knew that someone at the school would probably help him out, but for that to happen he would have to be open about who he was, or...what he was. He didn't want the stereotype attached to his name, so he decided that it would just be easier to deal with it on his own. The forest was certainly creepier than he had initially expected, though, and he felt very out of place.
Ian had heard of creatures lurking and searching for prey in the forest. He hoped that they were all asleep or in another part of the forest, though. He was looking for smaller creatures; the kind that were lower on the food chain than he was. At 4'8 and 82 pounds, he wasn't exactly going to be able to put up a fight if a larger animal found him. "Where are you?" he whispered, desperate to find something before it started getting dark. As time went on, though, he was feeling more and more alone.

"This place is deserted"
Wow...did people REALLY talk to themselves when they were alone? She had often wondered about that, having seen lots of horror movies, and thought it was just something people made up to add to the general creepiness. She never really believed anyone would ACTUALLY do that in real life, and it was kind of funny to her. She crept along quietly, much for the same reason Brian was.
Blood substitutes were kind of lame and boring. It was like asking someone to live on a diet of Slim fast shakes for life, when everywhere you looked there were T-Bone steaks and banana puddings. She knew she was forbidden to drink from humans...at least she was forbidden to get CAUGHT drinking from humans, but she figured nobody would notice one less squirrel or chipmunk or whatever. It wouldn't be the same but it beat the hell out of sitting up all night staring at the ceiling, pretending she was satisfied.
She had just made up her mind to sneak out and go for a midnight stroll, when she saw someone else had the same idea. She ducked back away from the door, and watched Ian sneak out of the common room, and quietly followed him out the door, trainers hanging on the tips of her fingers. Barefoot she walked in his footsteps until they were outside, and she slipped them on, making sure to stay several feet behind him. It wasn't that hard, really.
The moon was out, casting enough light to see, and though there was quite a bit of debris from fallen branches, dead leaves and whatnot, it was all in plain view, and mostly avoided, except for a few places where the ground was too covered, and she couldn't help but make the slight crackling noises that drew attention to her. Quickly she would slide behind a tree every time it looked like Ian would turn around, and she'd slap her hand over her mouth to stifle her giggles. Too easy. He probably would have been much more difficult to elude if he hadn't been quite so hungry, as she was.
"Where are you?"
She just couldn't resist any longer. She came out from the bushes, snuck up behind him as quietly as she could. Up on tiptoe, she whispered in his ear as creepily as she could, her breath wafting on his ear and the back of his neck...
"Right behind youuuuuu"

Just as Ian turned around to continue on his walk, he heard a sound in his ear and felt the breath of what must have been a maniacal, bloodthirsty beast. He nearly jumped out of his skin and fell face first into a pile of leaves that had been directly below him. He had heard someone whisper "Right behind youuu," he was sure of it. His blood pumping just about as hard as it could without forcing him into a state of cardiac arrest, he lifted his head from the pile, spitting orange and brown leaves out of his mouth and rustling them out of his hair so that he could see properly. It was a bit dark so he had some trouble seeing what the creature was, as he could see only a shadow. As his vision focused and the moon crept out from behind a cloud, he saw that it was Angelina.
He wasn't sure what to say, so he whispered "Wha-what are you doing out here?" He didn't want her to know what he was doing. He had come out into the forest to avoid anyone knowing, but now he was thinking that it may have been better at the school. He would have avoided both the embarrassment of bring scared out of his wits and also revealing his 'condition.' "You nearly scared me out of my mind. I thought you were some kind of deranged animal" he said, laughing nervously. "You're not are you?" He poked her just to make sure that he wasn't seeing things and that it was actually her. For all he knew, the fall he'd taken could have messed him up in the brain.
He hoped it was too dark for her to notice the paleness that was beginning to set in in his cheeks. He could feel the blood draining slowly. He needed something to eat. Of course he knew that he couldn't have humans, and he would never have wanted to anyway, but how was he going to hunt with Angel on his tail. He had been so sure of his privacy. She must have been a sneaky little bugger. Or perhaps his senses had taken a hit due to him being so weak.
"Have you been following me the whole way?" he asked, brushing the leaves off of his robes. "If so, you're pretty good at it" he laughed, finally getting over his recent panic attack. He thought of himself as relatively brave, but the forest can do strange things to a person.

"Well...I'm pretty sure my sister must think I'm deranged by now...I can't seem to stay out of wrestling matches these days...but no, I'm just your ordinary, run of the mill...Ravenclaw. Sorry to scare you, but you were kind of funny, you know", she laughed a little and took a moment to look around. It wasn't nearly as creepy as the other first years made it out to be. The little cowards had probably never seen it properly. It was just a bunch of trees, and some foliage, and an odd noise or two. Owls, maybe.
"Well...I didn't really mean to seem like some kind of crazed stalker type, but I was coming out here anyway. " A kind of cross between a moan and a growl distracted her, and she edged closer to Brian. Definitely not an owl.
"Why don't you tell ME what YOU'RE doing here first?" she countered, wondering what his answer would be. A standoff? Maybe. She wasn't going to give in first!

"Well, this is my first time in the forest" he admitted. "I'm just trying not to get eaten, you know?" Ian shrugged and looked over his shoulder again. He always overreacted when he heard noises, but he was sure that these were not innocent, fluffy animals with rainbows and candy coming to help them. They sounded like wolves, or worse...
She was coming out here anyway? But why? He laughed and said "I didn't think you were stalking. I just thought you might be a werewolf or a rabid centaur" he smiled. "Luckily, that wasn't the case." He heard the rustling of leaves once again and whipped his head around. "Don't you think it's kind of creepy out here? You can hear them out there, but they never let you see them." Of course, he didn't want to see them...whatever they were, but he didn't want to be kept in the dark either. It was a no-win situation, really. He quickly picked up a small stick and brandished it about. "Never fear!" he shouted, tossing the stick toward the spot where he had heard the rustling. "Scared it away" he smiled.
What was he doing out here? Oh, you know, just taking his regular midnight stroll out into the forest of death. Perhaps he would pick some clovers or eat off of the gumdrop house that the friendly, old lady had built right in the center of the rustling brush. Or maybe he was going to a tea party with the sword weilding centaurs. "I'm a vampire" he said very bluntly, shrugging. He was pale, he needed blood, and he didn't have all that much time to waste. He hadn't revealed his secret to anyone at the school yet, so Angel was the first. But he didn't mind much, because she seemed nice. Surely she wouldn't think that he was going to eat her or something. After all, he was a sensible guy. He only ate rabbits and mice, really.

"A werewolf? Ew...do I smell like some dirty puppy? Wait - don't answer that!" she eyed him suspiciously. Seriously? A werewolf? Pfft. She watched him throw the stick, and tried not to laugh. Silly. Like bloodthirsty, vicious creatures would be scared by a mere stick.
"Ian Garret, you're my heeeeero!" she joked and began walking again. She didn't see anything that looked like a midnight snack and she was beginning to worry. Of course they hadn't been outside that long, so there was still time. When he finally admitted he was a vampire, he only confirmed what she had suspected, though it was good to hear. For a minute she was worried, he might have been something else, he was so pale.
"A vampire, I never would have guessed," she replied, and rolled her eyes. Turning to face him, she opened her mouth, and tilted her head back so he cold see her tiny fangs.
"We match" she said with a grin.

Ian laughed when she sarcastically called him her hero and he picked up another stick. "Believe me, nothing will bother us now." He thought that she was probably a vampire, but he had no way of knowing. Now that she had shown him her teeth, his mood lightened. "You're the first one I've met here" he smiled. He hadn't known whether he was the only one or not, although he expected that there would be at least a few more at the castle. Maybe he had found a hunting buddy, though?
"Well, miss vampire..." he said. "I'm going to take this stick and find something to eat, if you'd like to come along." Of course, he knew that his invitation diddn't mean that he would be leading the charge. He was sure that she would probably take over and he would be following her after a few minutes. She had probably been here more than a few times. It was still his first. He still hadn't seen as much as a rat. His senses might be heightened, but he could only sense something when it was actually there.
"Onward!" he said, pointing his stick further into the forest. He had heard a rustling somewhere in that direction. Although he didn't know what exactly was inside, he felt a little better knowing that he wasn't alone anymore.
