The Great Hall was set and ready for all the students to arrive. A generous spread of British dishes and other delicacies were spread among the tables in the room. No inch of the tabletop was left empty. Goblets of pumpkin juice were lined in rows. The greatest of decorations adorned the walls, floors, and ceilings. The Sorting Hat was waiting for the new students upon its stool, a Professor standing there ready to begin the Sorting Ceremony.
And yet, one thing was missing.
The Head of the School was still unavailable. Where was this mysterious person? Who was going to run the great School of Hogwarts? Was there anyone even chosen yet? All these mysterious quesions were left unanswered as everyone filed in for the great feast. Would the students and staff run amok without the leadership of a Headmaster? Certainly not. But they were not available were they?
No, they were not.
But in the Head of School's place, currently, sat a woman. In the Head's chair sat someone that none there knew. Who was this mysterious woman sitting there? She was dressed up as if she were a staff member of great importance. She was indeed. This woman worked for the Ministry of Magic. But why was she here?
Once everyone was seating, and after the Sorting Ceremony was complete, the unknown person stood and walked towards the podium and spoke....
"Good evening everyone. I'm sure you're all wondering who I am so let me get straight to the point. My name is Candace Stewart and I work for the Ministry of Magic. In light of the reopening of Hogwarts, the Minister has taken a special interest in assuring that such a mishap does not happen again. So, Thats what i'll be doing! Please, dont feel alarmed, I'll just be here observing, and acting as an impetus for the success of the school year. I'll be like a fly on the wall so dont mind me and just go about your day as if I weren't here." she smiled cheerfully at the crowd, hoping to alleviate any concerns
"I hope to get to know each one of you but I think I just heard someone's stomach growl so thats my cue to end, Let the feast begin!" She took her seat

Lyn Estel stirred in her seat. "Who was this person? No headmaster? Just an observor? What was going on?" As she heard the words 'Let the feat begin", she turned her attention to the suddenly appearing food. More here than she had ever seen. She turned to the girl next to her. "I'm Lyn Estel. You're Darla Marsh? We'll probably be roommates. Pleased to meet you. I hope we can be friends."

Jaeha stumbled into the Great Hall, almost tripping over his robe. One of these days, he would have to learn to get used to the dress code. The first thing he noticed as he straightened himself was the tables, food and it looked it could go on forever. His mouth watered as he tried to remain calm. Instead of jumping into the nearest seat, he walked indifferently towards the Gryffindor table which was almost packed. He picked the first empty seat he could find which was the one near the end of the table. His eyes scanned the room even when he wanted nothing more than to just 'tuck in' and taste the food. Sure enough, it was proven to be a good decision as he spotted a woman at the head chair. She didn't look nearly as old enough to run a school or friendly enough for that matter. Jaeha paid attention as the woman talked. So, she was a Ministry employee, that doesn't sound good...
But, Jaeha wasn't allow enough time to ponder as the magical word was being uttered. Let the feast begin, and with that his stomach won against curiousity. He reached for the first serving of food; mash potatoes, chicken and everything else that was there and started to eat almost at once.

Kayla was beyond excited to begin her first year at Hogwarts. The fact that school was just reopening after so long made it even more exciting. She was going to be part of history. Not that history was her favorite subject - it wasn't - but being famous was something she dreamed about. When she was older, and Ministress of Magic, the fact that she was part of the group of students that helped restore Hogwarts to its glory would be something she could be proud of and something she would be known for.
Kayla walked into the Great Hall and saw a woman sitting at the front. Kayla assumed she was the head of school, but she was wrong. The woman was with the Ministry, apparently the head of school hadn't been named yet. Odd, she thought, but then again Kayla was new to the magical school scene so maybe it wasn't all that strange.
She grabbed some punch and wandered around the great room observing all of the people around her.

Kaitlyn ran towards the Great Hall, hoping to whoever was up there that she wasn't late. She hastily rounded the corner and found out that there were still plenty of students going in. Strolling in while trying to act as though she hadn't ran all the way from her dorm, she saw some random woman sitting in the Head's chair.
Who the heck is this person? Kaity thought. She ran through all the teachers in her head, and none of them vaguely resembled the woman up the front.
Hiding her confusion, she sat down at the Ravenclaw table with some fellow second years. She began talking with them for a few minutes, before it was time for the Sorting Ceremony to begin. Kaitlyn watched with enthusiasm, welcoming all the new Ravenclaws to the table with a big grin on her face.
After the ceremony was over, the mysterious woman stood up and walked to the podium. She then began talking.
Kaity soaked in all the woman was saying like a sponge while her thoughts ran wild. Candace Stewart, eh? Hmm. She thought condescendingly. Kait knew she shouldn't, but she couldn't help but feel a general dislike for this woman. She'd heard stories about when Umbridge had been sent to 'observe' - they weren't pleasant ones.
Regardless, Kait had been raised to be a good girl, and good girls don't make judgments so quickly. Ms Stewart was probably a very nice person and wasn't anything like Umbridge...right?
When Candace Stewart finished her mini-speech, Kaity dug right in to the yummy food laid out on the tabled. She helped herself to chicken and gravy, potatoes, a bit of salad, some cauldron cakes and a pumpkin pastie. She also started sipping at her goblet of pumpkin juice.
The food was very nice, as it always was at a beginning-of-term feast. Kait could barely spend any time on conversation as she ate.

Ivy had been sorted into Gryffindor, that was no real surprise to her she was joining the family bandwagon. She perched her pointed Hogwarts hat back on her head and hopped off of the stool to go and join her housemates. She recognised one boy sat there, the one she'd met in the library not long ago but at the moment that was all she knew. There were still others to be sorted so she sat and watched eagerly as new people joined their House tables.
Once the sorting was done and the feast was about to begin a Lady stood up from behind the staff table and began to make a speech. Ivy initially assumed she was the Headmistress of the school, they were usually the ones to make the speeches after all, but no she wasn't. A lady from the ministry? How could Daddy not have known about this and told Ivy what to expect. And no Headmaster? Well now this was all just pretty strange.
So what did that mean for the future of the school? Was it all still up in the air and undecided? Ivy hoped not, she'd been looking forward to coming to Hogwarts so much she'd be so sorely disappointed should something happen to prevent this. With a sigh she resigned not to worry on it all too much, it was an issue for the grownups to deal with, and to just enjoy the long awaited feast. For the food really did look good!

Evie sat and watched patiently at the Gryffindor table as the new students were sorted into their houses, smiling and waving at all of the new Gryffindors that walked passed her to take a seat at the table. She waved extra excitedly at Ivy as she sat down not far from her, thrilled to have a friend that was now in her house. Her tummy rumbled lightly as they neared the end of the sorting, was it her or were there a whole lot of first years to sort this term? Soon though, the sorting was over, but unfortunately the feast had yet to begin.
A woman that had been sitting at the head table stood to speak, Evie hadn't even noticed her sitting up there before now, nor did she notice that there was no headmaster or headmistress. She had assumed that they would have chosen someone to lead the school before it reopened, no? What was the hold up anyway? There had to be plenty of qualified candidates out there. Pushing those thoughts aside for later examination, she turned her attention to the woman's speech. Ministry of Magic? Observing? What on earth was she observing for? Again these thoughts were pushed aside as the feast began, her hungry tummy getting the better of her curious mind.

Post by Professor Aaron Lathen on May 28, 2012 17:54:52 GMT -5
He sat only a few seats from the woman he had never seen before and who changed his life for the better, so he hoped. Ten years of, well, nothing, and this was the outcome. Surely only good would happen in the process. Fate would smile on him, and Aaron Lathen would do well enough to keep it that way. He just had to stay out of that woman's way, because he knew, despite her cheery overture, that she was not innocent. Well, he didn't know, but he thought he knew, and that was good enough for him.
The Ministry, in his experience, was nothing but trouble. They breathed trouble, they thrived on trouble, they had been constructed on trouble. They would say otherwise, that they had been built to prevent trouble, but the professor was not an idiot. Governments were not built for the better: they were built so that there was control, and all throughout history, control was never always for the good of everyone. Sure, there had been moments throughout history that suggested otherwise, but all in all, people were still unhappy, and for good reason. Even Hogwarts had had its share of corruption, though admittedly, it wasn't as bad as most places. That was something Aaron would say aloud if ever prompted.
"Let the feast begin!"
Wasting no time in grabbing a forkful of mashed potatoes, the dark-dressed man tuned out everyone around him and began a steady enjoyment of his evening meal.

Post by Annika Lyngstad on May 28, 2012 19:39:50 GMT -5
Her name was Annika Lyngstad, the eleven year olds next conquest, Hogwarts. her name may not be well known as of yet, it soon would be. Annika would make sure of it. A privileged child was she. Like the other riff rafs this was her first day. The castle thus far in her observation though large was out dated. Dull and drab to be honest. The Great Hall her first school function seemed more to date. But only slightly. The great doors were open so Annika made her entrance. The low rumble in the pit of her stomach meant her arrival was right on schedule. The food on the long ride here was not up to Annika's standards. Let's hope the school food was better. Let the feast begin! The announcement rang through the hall, as if waiting on Annika's arrival. Assuming she wasn't going to be properly seated, Annika made her way down the center aisle. All the way to the front of one of the large tables. The end seat was empty but this would not do. Certainly not. Annika whirled around to face the woman who had just made the announcement. "You there" Annika called up to Candace Stewart "Yes you, the one with the smug grin in your fancy smancy chair. I demand you have someone sanitize this chair and table at once!"

Candace began to pile some of her favorites, treacle tart, mashed potatos... and added a salad to prove she was no fatty. She dipped her fork into the tart, broke off a bitesize piece and stuffed it into her mouth. Mmm.. WHO was it that said a Hogwarts position would be hell? This seems like a piece of cake---- Atleast... it had. She stared at the nuisance before her eyes. Shouting about something so trivial as santizing. She swallowed the food in her mouth, dabbing the corners of her mouth with a napkin as she tried to digest what was going on.
"Is that so?" she inquired, staring doefully at the girl. "Let me make a formal inquiry right this instant!" She pulled out her notepad and began to scribble Demanding... slightly OCD.,. distraught... "mmm what's your name sweetie?" she asked, looking over her notepad. She wondered if erratic behavior had left Hogwarts in ruins? If that be the case then surely they would need to do something about it.

Post by Professor Cody Parker on May 28, 2012 23:52:12 GMT -5
Professor Parker strode in to the Start of Term Feast with a bit of swagger. What was once his childhood dream was now reality. He was, undoubtedly, a professor at Hogwarts. The school that he once attended, leaving his mark without a doubt, was now his home again. All of his OWLs and NEWTs in CoMC had finally paid off. With years of work in Wizard zoos, dealing with magical creatures as a zookeeper, Professor Parker had returned to demonstrate his knowledge through teaching. He wore his newest robes proudly, taking a seat in the Professor's chair quite proudly. As he held his chin high, he took a peer at the students before him.
He listened to the Ministry employee speaking before him. Was she a big deal? Where were the new Headmaster and Headmistress? Who was taking charge in this damn school? Professor Parker was quite puzzled. He had no time to think thoroughly about the situation though, as a fresh plate of dumplings was sat right in front of his nose. Licking his chops, Professor Parker dug into the meal as if it were his first. The heads of the school may have changed, but the food sure hadn't!
With a loud belch, Professor Parker dropped his spoon, and leaned back in his chair stretching. He pulled out a pipe and began lighting the tobacco with his wand. There was nothing like a good smoke after dinner. He blew smoke rings, waving them into dragons with his wand, hoping to impress a few students. They would soon be his pupils. He wanted to be admired, respected, and feared all at once. This was his dream.. And it paid very well to go along with it!
Puffing his pipe, the Professor eyed the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor at the other side of the table. He gestured a nod, figuring that sooner or later they would have to become acquainted. If he wasn't so lazy, and the professor wasn't long on the other side of the table, he may have sat up and introduced himself. It was nothing he couldn't shrug off. He probably knew all of the Professors anyways, from his time at Hogwarts long ago.
As he leaned back in his chair, kicking his heals back and resting them on a separate chair, the Professor wondered would would be in store this term. With all of the new students, professors, administration, and the extremely easy on the eyes Ministry employee, it was bound to be an interesting term. The Professor beamed proudly once more, as a fresh apple pie was set before him.
"Who wants pie!?" he offered anyone who was around. Surely that would be the best way for an introduction. Everyone loves pie!

Post by Saul Alexander Talvos on May 29, 2012 5:16:40 GMT -5
Well, one redeeming feature of all of this...Saul was a Slytherin like his mother had been. He'd thought he would just give up and leave the instant the sorting was over had he been sorted into something like Hufflepuff! As it was he gave a sly smile as the sorting hat called out his house, and the others at the table clapped appreciatively until he sat down amongst them.
He wasn't massively interested in the speech the woman behind the staff table gave, what did it matter to him if she was from the Ministry or was the Headmistress or the freaking Queen of England, he was indifferent to it all. He'd be here if he had to be, didn't mean he had to care about the goings on of it all. Now where was the food?
Finally the Ministry lady stopped talking the food appeared. Saul began to load his plate up with all of the best looking things, ok so there was another redeeming feature the food was good. He cast his blue eyes around the hall taking in all of the excited faces with a slight air of disdain as he tucked into his dinner.

Post by Christina Abbot on May 29, 2012 6:47:42 GMT -5
Christina was quite excited to be finally returning to Hogwarts for her second year. She had gotten of the Hogwarts Express at Hogsmeade Station and heard the Groundskeeper call for first year to follow him. She remembered her first year when she had followed the Groundskeeper along with other first years as the were led to small boats that took them across the lake to Hogwarts.
This year though following the other students she found that second years and up rode a carriage to Hogwarts Castle. She noticed that they were being pulled by a type of horse she had read about in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them called Thestrals. She wondered why no one else seemed to notice them but her then she remembered that only one who has witnessed a death can see them. She had seen her moms death in a vision when swimming in the lake at Hogwarts. She decided to keep her mouth shut and just enjoyed the ride to the castle.
After getting of the carriage and walking with other student towards the Great Hall she remembered her first year and how nervous she had been. Last year at this time she was just a first year and hadn't yet to be sorted or put on the hat. It had been exciting and scary all at the same time but she was sorted into Hufflepuff and had never regretted it since.
She walked into the Great Hall for for the Start of Term Feast and took a seat at the Hufflepuff table with the other Hufflepuffs. Before she knew it the Great Hall became quite and the first years were led into the room and told to stand before all the table in the front and wait till their names were individually called so they could be sorted.
She heard the name of her new friend she had met at the Leaky Cauldron Ivy and watched smiling as she went up and sat on the stool to be sorted. When Ivy got sorted into Gryffindor she smiled and clapped remember how Ivy had hoped to get that house. She continued watching as more first years were sorted as one Annika Lyngstad got sorted into Hufflepuff. Christina stood up and clapped smiling very brightly as Annika came over to the Hufflepuff table to join them.
"Welcome to Hufflepuff Annika!" she exclaimed smiling as, she watched her sit down at the table. Once everyone had been sorted and stool was removed she noticed an adult she had never seen before walk up to the podium and speak. While listening she gathered the ladies name was Candace Stewart and she was here on behalf of the Ministry of Magic. Christina felt a slight chill run down her back listening to the lady but as soon as she heard "Let the Feast Began" she immediately started to feel better.
The plates on the tables suddenly filled with food magically with all sorts of yummy foods like mashed potatoes , french fries, pumpkin juice , carrots, peas, to bread pudding and many more types of food. Christina plopped a heaping pile of mashed potatoes on her plate along with a nice big chicken drumstick , some green peas while she poured herself a nice big glass of Pumpkin Juice.

Elessar Garrison walked into the Great Hall after completing Inventory on his stock on medicinal supplies. He was rather hungry for a good steak. In ABBA's place at the Staff table was a woman who looked like she worked for the Ministry. El wondered if this woman knew exactly what she was getting herself into, hell, he had once torched part of the school to the point of the stone melting.
Elessar took his place at the Staff table, and with a great big smile, started eating the biggest steak there was for the feast. He began to purr like a feline after savoring a delicious bite of the meat.
